– Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio has just confirmed this afternoon that the Affliction: Trilogy pay-per-view event has been cancelled. The reason for the cancellation was the steroid test failure of heavyweight Josh Barnett that left the company without a main event and opponent for Fedor. While the company had many fighters to choose from to fill the void, the company didn’t feel that they could promote an event to their standards, and opted to cancel the event and commit to future shows. Tom Atencio made the following comments on the Trilogy situation…

“Finding an opponent for the No. 1 ranked MMA heavyweight champion
in such a short period of time was a huge endeavor, and I’m thrilled at the amount of fighters willing to take on this challenge. But in the end, we just didn’t have enough time to promote a new fight to our standards. Affliction is deeply disappointed that the undercard is also canceled through no fault of its own,” the release stated. “Affliction stands behind the company’s brands and delivers premium products to the most passionate and loyal customers. Affliction’s first priority is to ensure that all future events live up to the company’s high standards”
