Anthony Pettis Speaks On Amazing Kick At WEC 53

Anthony Pettis brought the WEC promotion to an end in style this past Thursday night, using one of the most incredible kicks in the history of the sport to seal the victory against Ben Henderson at WEC 53.

The main event lightweight title bout proved to be extreme, where Pettis pulled off one of the craziest kicks to date in an MMA fight where Pettis did what looked like a spinning ninja kick off the cage for the title win in the final round.

“The biggest thing going through my mind was ‘go for it.’ I kept thinking like, ‘man, I gotta do something to land.’ He was checking all my low kicks and I couldn’t get off. He kept stopping me, one or two punches, so I’m like, ‘I gotta do something out the box and see what happens.’ Luckily for me, it landed. We practice it in camp … to do it in a title fight in the last round is something different.”

Now Pettis becomes the No. 1 contender in the UFC and will take on the winner of the January 1 fight between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard in the UFC. Originally some questioned whether Pettis really belonged in that kind of a fight. Pettis put those doubts to rest with one of the great highlights of MMA history.
