More on Austin Wrestling Again, Punk Happy To Go Heel, Orton

– Two people close to Steve Austin say that he has no great desire to do another match and that he was comfortable when he left. Austin won’t do another match unless he can perform at the level he was at because he doesn’t want to short-cut his way through or work an old man style match.

– It’s said that CM Punk was happy to go heel. The story is that Punk realized he was never going to surpass John Cena as the #1 babyface but the #1 heel slot has been wide open.

On a related note, Randy Orton has made it clear he wants to be a heel and can perform as a top heel. The problem with that is WWE won’t turn him until they are fully confident in Sheamus drawing as the top babyface on the SmackDown side.

Punk never had a chance at surpassing Cena because they took the most compelling feuds away from him. CM Punk vs. The WWE Establishment had gold written all over it. It had Stone Cold or Bret Hart written on it. All they had to do was make Punk an anti-authority ‘tweener and turn Triple H into a power-hungry heel and we’d STILL be talking about it. They had the chance for greatness. Instead Punk start shaking hands with the other faces, his pipe-bombs became calling people names, and Cena got the headline feuds. At the very least they could have given him the Johnny Ace feud, which would have made sense with Punk holding the Title, but even that went to Cena. But they went the safe route and the fans lost out on something memorable.

So, yeah, glad Punk is a heel, because it’s the only way he’s going to see a main event.

CM punk should never have been a face ‘face’, in the cena mould, it was never going to work. Punk being an Austin face, maybe, but still he needed better material and tougher opponents and anyways heels are much more interesting to watch, im still surprised faces shift more merch, when we all love a baddie.

What the WWE doesnt seem to understand is that it takes a great heel to get the “good guy” over
