Backstage News on CM Punk’s Status, WWE RAW Viewership Down, Bryan-Batista, More

– Monday night’s episode of WWE RAW from Chicago was the most-watched show on cable for the night, doing a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating, even with last week. This week’s show averaged 4.576 million viewers, down just a bit from last week’s 4.661 million viewers with Hulk Hogan’s return. The first hour drew 4.672 million viewers, the second hour drew 4.620 million viewers and the third hour drew 4.438 million viewers.

– Jerry Lawler said on RAW that the Batista vs. Daniel Bryan match was their first time facing each other but they wrestled on RAW back in May of 2010.

– It was pitched at one point to have Bad News Barrett come out and do a “bad news” segment on CM Punk at Monday night’s RAW in Chicago but it was nixed.

– There are people within WWE that feel CM Punk is probably not coming back and that he’s mentally done with wrestling. We’ll have more on this later.

I think Punk will be back eventually, but not full time. He’s been one of the hardest working guys in the business since he broke in. That’s a lot of wear and tear on his body and mind. The road schedule has taking its toll. I could see him going back to ROH for a little while (wrestling a few bouts here and there, but mostly doing broadcasting and helping to bring some attention their way). After that I could see him making small appearance for WWE, such as when they’re in Chicago, but not a lot more. Punk has a lot of interests outside of wrestling and I believe he just wants some time to focus on those without being told what he can and can’t do by WWE. He had a great run, now it’s time to actually enjoy life. Guys like Rollins, Ambrose, Zayn, etc can easily fill his void if given the opportunity.
