Backstage news on future opponent for Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins

We noted before how the arena for the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV started advertising a Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin match for the PPV.

At the time, a lot of people thought that this was just a placeholder advertising and the actual match for the Universal title will change by the time the PPV comes around.

However, a new report from Wrestling Observer seems to back this listing up and it suggests that the company is building Corbin as a challenger for Rollins in future.

This report makes sense as the company sees the Lone Wolf as one of their top heels and the recent example of it was him being chosen as Kurt Angle’s opponent for Angle’s farewell bout.

After this report, it looks likely that Baron Corbin will find himself in the Universal title picture sooner rather than later and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he actually faces Seth Rollins in a tables match at the upcoming show as the advertisement suggests.

Corbin still has the briefcase from Strowman. Corbin was making matches at that point and could have just made a title match for Strowman, no case needed. Corbin has the case and will case in and likely win the title at MITB and I wouldn’t be surprised if WWE had him win the MITB briefcase this year, ensuring that no one would be able to cash in one him as champion. I don’t like it, but if I was booking, that’s what I’d do.
