Backstage update on Shane McMahon’s WWE World Cup win

The first ever WWE World Cup ended in a bizarre fashion after SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon replaced The Miz to defeat Dolph Ziggler and win the tournament in the process.

Dave Meltzer mentioned the plan going forward with McMahon by saying:

“The idea is that Shane is going heel, Miz wasn’t hurt. This was all booked to be exactly what it is – the beginning of a Shane McMahon heel turn.”

“When this tournament was first put together, this was always the finish. It was always going to be the finish that Shane was going to turn heel when this thing ends.”

As it turns out, The Miz was not hurt as initially speculated. It was apparently the plan all along by the WWE Creative as they head towards a potential heel turn for Shane McMahon, who will be calling himself as “The Best In The World” going forward.

This will probably play a huge role in the build-up to the Raw vs. SmackDown storyline for the upcoming Survivor Series.
