Backstage Update on Undertaker’s Streak Ending, Last Minute Change of Plans and McMahon’s Involvement

Undertaker Streak Ended 21 - 1

Vince McMahon made the final call to have Brock Lesnar defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX, and with it end The Deadman’s legendary undefeated streak. There were reports to the contrary that it was Undertaker’s decision to end the streak, but that is not true. Despite that, there is a belief that if the Undertaker didn’t want the streak to end, he could have challenged the decision and it probably wouldn’t have happened.

The original plan for match was to have the Undertaker defeat Lesnar and preserve the Streak, however McMahon changed his mind days before WrestleMania. The feeling is that McMahon knew this could potentially be the Undertaker’s last match, and was also was mindful of his physical condition, deciding that if the streak was ever going to be broken, it had to be now.

There are conflicting reports on the Undertaker’s reaction to the decision – one friend of his said he had to be talked into it, while another person who would likely know, said there was no disagreement with the decision at all.

THIS!!!! OMG THIS! why cant little marks every understand this?….
Lesnar has wrestled more matches in this year alone, that Taker has in the last 5… FACT
Get over it you little nostalgia hungry cry babies!

If you honestly are still THIS butt hurt over the streak, then you really need to take a step back from watching a scripted entertainment Television show…

  • Actually, Vince credited Bret Hart with saving the WWF in the mid-90s, not Taker. He may give Taker some credit also. But if he really felt that way, Taker would have been a champion and a consistent main-event guy before 1997. From 1992-1996, he was a mid-card attraction, fighting monster after monster. It was entertaining, but it was also same old “stuff” for years. Hart was the banner player of the 90s, from 92-97. HBK had his time in 96, because Bret took several months off. And just FYI, business was way down in 96 while HBK was champ for months. He was popular, but he was NOT, in contrary to popular belief, a top draw. Business picked up again when, guess what, Bret came back, and also when Sid became WWF Champion.

I love Taker, and he is one of the greatest of all time. He was one of the TOP stars of the 90s. But The Hitman was THE top star of the 90s, period. It if hadn’t been for Hart, WWF might likely have collapsed and died.

  • We’re talking about pro wrestling, and you’re talking about “realistic”. Go home, you’re kind of drunk.

  • Oh yes. How very noble. He passed the torch to a guy who wrestles a grand whopping total of three matches per year, who has never cared anything for the wrestling business or it’s fans, he is NOT a fan of wrestling himself, he only did it for the money, and that’s the only reason he ever came back to WWE, because he couldn’t do UFC anymore, and he wanted more $$$$. And Vince was stupid enough to pay him massive cash to barely appear at all, for years now. Really great passing of the torch, because Brock Lesnar is totally the “future of the business”, wouldn’t you say?

  • Right. Whatever. It still shouldn’t have happened. And anyone saying otherwise is an outright fool.

  • Truefan

And Takers a part timer himself

  • TheFizPop

Personally Fandango should have ended it, if for nothing more than comical value 😀

  • TheFizPop

Jeebus christ! Its happened now, its over, done with, deal with it! Its like everything good, imagination capturing and worth investing in, it ends! It all ends, no point in getting to much into anything, as it all ends! Just take things for what they are and stop this rose-glazed view and ignorance! “Life sucks and then you die”

“Vince has no respect for the undertaker” Is an opinion that couldn’t be more wrong.

Vince personally credits ‘Taker with saving WWE in the mid 90’s, and if he didn’t respect him, he never would have had a streak to begin with.

  • Heisenberg

Well, I think it was the right to do if Taker is retiring. Imagine if the Streak is not beaten, there would have been talks of him to comeback from retirement **EVERY** Wrestlemania until is dead. Now he can retire in peace (RIP!), get to the HOF and get on with his life. Lesnar might not have been the wisest choice but not a bad one either to end it.

This is bs nobody will every no who made the final call because nobody every been backstage in the WWE. Gee talk about beating a dead horse. Every day something new about the streak being ended. Undertaker streak is not even the biggest in the WWE Andre The Giant went 15 years didn’t even lose one match. Did that turn out for him one of the biggest name in WWE ever. Undertaker is in that class all the streak ending means the end of one of the greatest career ever next to Andre. I think Brock Lasner was pick to be the one way before he sign in the WWE. Does not bother me not hurting Undertaker career what so every and Taker always going to be one of the greatest.

  • d_pooch

99% of this article is speculation. Taker did the job as all guys are expected to on the way out. He passed the torch to Brock. The end.

  • Truefan

If people think the Undertaker had no say in this whatsoever then people are just dumb…and u cant say that about Vince hes a genius he was great for TV and I miss em

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

Except as predictable as it was, his WM streak was his legacy & If it WAS Vince who had the final say he clearly has no respect or simply just doesn’t get it (he’s never really understood what we the fans want). Now its gone, and the fact that he’s had it broken by a part timer is what sickens me

  • Truefan

dude… just wouldntve been realistic for Taker to win that match…thats just how I see it.

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

    What an A-Hole…..

Vince has absolutely no clue, and what an impact this has had on the wrestling world. Such a lousy decision & to have Brock Lesnar of all people go over a guy who’s given so much to the industry just sickens me to be honest
