Bad News Barrett on the WWE World Heavyweight Title, Coming Up Short at WrestleMania, More

– Bad News Barrett recently spoke with talkSPORT in the UK to promote tonight’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Below are highlights:

Beating Neville to the WWE World Heavyweight Title:

“First things first, that’s what I want. I see it as my title. I’m a five-time Intercontinental champion and I want my title back. I am the rightful champion, I’m the guy who has really supported that title over the last few years in WWE. So as far as I’m concerned, scurrying up a ladder and stealing it doesn’t qualify someone calling themselves the Intercontinental champion – so I’ve got to put right to wrong. Once I’ve done that I want to be the first ever British WWE World heavyweight champion, especially now we’ve got Neville around. I know he’s going to be gunning for it, so I’ve got to step my game up and make sure I beat him to the title.”

Being unlucky at WrestleMania and working WrestleMania 31:

“It was a great experience, an amazing day for us – 76,000 people were packed into Levi’s Stadium, and going by the roar they made half of them were probably from Britain! Wrestlemania really is the pinnacle for anyone that works in our business. I’ve been pretty unlucky in the past when it comes to Wrestlemanias, I’ve not always had that highlighted spot. Fortunately it all came good for me this year and I managed to stay injury-free, which is a rarity in itself. So I was very pleased to get all the way to Wrestlemania, with the only downside being Daniel Bryan stealing my championship. So we’ve got a bit of beef left with that one and I’ll be seeing him very soon at Extreme Rules.” (interview done before Bryan was pulled)

The Ladder Match at WrestleMania:

“The worst move I took was actually one I did myself when I suplexed Stardust off the big ladder and I landed very high on my neck. I can still feel a little soreness from that one. But you have to go all out at Wrestlemania, those are the matches that will live forever. In thirty years’ time people will still be watching that match, which is pretty incredible. I’ll be in my sixties at that point reminiscing about my days in the ring and it is crazy that that will live forever. But it will.”
