Becky Lynch credits Dusty Rhodes and Stone Cold Steve Austin for inspiring her

Becky Lynch has been quite a successful superstar in the WWE. The Lass Kicker was the first Smackdown Women’s Champion and has put on great matches with the likes of Charlotte, Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Natalya.

While she hasn’t always been near the top of the division, she’s earned a reputation as one of the best workers and has earned the love and respect of the WWE Universe. In an interview with Wrestling Compadres, Lynch said that she believes her connection with the fans stems from her great character work and that two legendary stars inspired her.

Dusty Rhodes was a really important part of building up my confidence because I felt physically that I had never been an athlete.

But the talking ability and the ability of being a character was something that I had studied and that was something that I was constantly working at when I was outside of the pro wrestling world. Without his support I don’t know that I’d be here today.

Lynch went on to say that it wasn’t just the American Dream that gave her the motivation to follow her dream. Some old WWE videos featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin really helped the former champion push through the hard times.

Remember those WWE-produced videos of ‘My Sacrifice’ by Creed where Stone Cold Steve Austin would talk about all those sacrifices that he’d gone through and he wouldn’t give them up for anything because they made him what he is today?

Those videos were so motivational and inspirational and I would always go back to those videos and say that this is ‘My Sacrifice’ moment. Where I was poor, cars kept breaking down on me, my teeth needed root canals…you keep pushing through and eventually you get there.

Lynch is on her way to a title shot at Summerslam when she, along with Charlotte, take on Carmella in a Triple Threat match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
