Oh Bilal: John Cena Why Are You Still Here?

This past week on Raw John Cena attempted to defend his five moves of doom and lack of wrestling ability to #1 contender for his WWE Title Daniel Bryan. However, we later learned an elbow injury has kept Cena out of the ring since the Money in the Bank pay per view last month. This same injury will likely mean the Cenation will be on hiatus after this Sunday’s Summer Slam. However, why have we been subjected to a non-wrestling WWE Champion for the past month? If this had been anyone else would they have not been stripped of the title or at least asked to vacate it? Most likely, the difference is Cena sells merchandise at a higher rate without having to lift much more than a microphone. It is hard to fault John Cena he has donated the more wishes to the Make-A-Wish foundation than any other person. He has given his all to this company and a significant majority of fans love him for that and will buy his merchandise in all the colors of the rainbow, while the other half of us cannot stand him because he have seen him main event regardless of if he is WWE champion or not.

So I place the blame entirely at the feet of WWE! Instead of a month of promo’s and Wade Barrett vs Daniel Bryan, we could have been given a tournament over the past month that would of rewarded Daniel Bryan with the WWE Title. Aside from that fact he would have faced a greater variety of opponents it would have also helped to elevate other talents. Or better yet Orton could have cashed in the night after Money in the Bank, and Bryan could have earned the #1 contender spot. Instead we are left with the most predictable cash-in situation in WWE history. You have an injured WWE champion who has to make it to Summer Slam (only to lose), an underdog number 1 contender with no clear feud or rematch after winning the title and the McMahon meddling in the match. WWE send Cena home do not rush him back, and let new superstars emerge. As a WWE fan sign put it best “We Have Cen-Enough!” Bueller take it from here.

Do you think John Cena still deserves to defend the WWE title after a month of not actually wrestling?

Your right Dan, he was not in the ring long but he still took some bumps in that match.

Didn’t Cena have a match in the last two weeks? Cena, Bryan and Orton vs The Shield wasn’t too long ago. But he should definitely take some time off, he’s long overdue some, certainly earned it.

Fair point, and for all we know he could of suffered the injury then (or at least worsened it). I still feel like if he needs time off, he should take it, there is too much talent on the roster for Cena to be starting his vacation early. I will grant you that he should not compete hurt unnecessarily.

Cena did face Ryback in a tables match 3 weeks ago and I’m sure if he really needed to he could have wrestled at sometime in the past 3 weeks.

I agree, if it were anyone else they would have been stripped of the title even if it meant re-writing the show right before it went on the air.

As for the old “must defend or be stripped in a certain time period” like most things the WWE has conveniently forgotten or fudged the line on those things many times before, so unless Bryan wins, or whoever and Orton cashes in I still see a scenario where Cena magically retains and holds the belt for as long as he’s injured, just showing up to TV to cut lame promos like he always does, and no one mentions the 30 days or be stripped stip.
