Bully Ray Talks About Being a Singles Competitor, Current Goals and More

The Big WrestleShark Show recently spoke with Bully Ray. Here are some highlights from the interview.

Being a singles competitor as opposed to being in a tag team: “Being a singles competitor is definitely different, especially when you’re used to being in a team for 15 years: it’s a different world out there.

“I am enjoying it, I never thought I would. I never got into wrestling because I wanted to be a singles wrestler, I always wanted to be in a tag team, I always knew that I wanted to have the most successful tag team that ever existed. I would never be so pompous or egomaniacal as to say we were the greatest tag team ever because I don’t know what measures greatness. But I can tell you we’re the most successful. No other team has done what we did, no other team has had 23 major World Tag Team Titles. Name a territory with a major set of tag team titles and we’ve won them. That’s it. Bottom line.”

If he could match that success as a singles star: “I don’t know if I could ever match that success because I don’t know if I have another 15 years left in me to accomplish what I was able to do: I had time on my side then. For those 15 years, I was doing it 300 nights a year, I dunno if I can do that now.”

His current goals: “My only goal right now is to become the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. I mean, I know a lot of guys will sit here and say that, but I think it’s realistic. You’ll get a younger guy say ‘oh my goal is to win the World Championship’ and I’ll be like ‘yeah, when? In ten years, gimme a break.’ I’ve come so damn close in 2012, but I think that is a realistic goal that is right at my fingertips. And that’s a personal goal, for the company, I’d like the company to move forward, to continue to grow and become more of a household name in the wrestling world.”

How to make TNA more of a household name: “Product awareness. WWE has been around for 75 years, of course they are at the tip of everybody’s tongue. TNA has only been around 11 years, they still got a lot of growing to do. But there is a lot of light at the end of the tunnel for this company.”
