- Dave Meltzer revealed on the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that The Carters are looking to sell TNA.

“There’s a lot of moves, there’s a lot of moves that are being done behind the scenes,” Meltzer said. “No matter what anyone is going to say right now, there’s big things going on behind the scenes as far as the future ownership of the company, and at that point, god only knows where it goes.”

“There’s people looking to get in, and I think the Carters are looking to get out. They’ve lost enough money and all that, and you know as far as what that means, who knows. But they’ve been looking to get out for a while. Now everyone is going to scream at me, but that’s 100%. That’s the stuff that they don’t want you know. They’ve been looking to get out when they didn’t want to fund them anymore.”

It’s amazing how everyone’s talking like they’re already outta business:S

Vince would do it the way he did ECW; start with some contracts and licenses to use logos, and acquire it slowly as the bankruptcy courts lower their price because nobody else wants it.

Notice how after the first 2 weeks of Invasion, WWE stopped using ECW logos? That is because they didn’t have the licenses to use them and didn’t want to pay, so they just called it “The Alliance” and didn’t refer to ECW within the alliance as ECW very often or demonstrate ECW logos.

Eventually WWE softened up and bought the logos after the prices on the debt acquisition were lowered.

People dont think its great that TNA is going out of business because like WCW before it, they have watched something they love turn shit and they dont want to see the product fall even further. A lot of people feel the same about WWE as well, so are they wrong as well?
Yes we need competition for WWE, but TNA in its current state is not it.
What TNA needs is someone to buy it that isnt called McMahon, someone who knows how to push the company to the same level as WWE and go head to head with them. Who that is though is beyond me, as I dont see anyone with that kind of backing who has the knowledge of the business to do that.
That said, the viewing figures for wrestling are just nowhere near the levels it was back in the day, and I doubt they could reclaim that level after years of weaker product. Some people will never come back, no matter how good it is.

gah… this crossed my mind too: X-Division style ppv with a six-sided ring.

  • ddfindl

He would likely just buy some of the licensing (the library, like you said) and pick up worth-while free agents that express interest in joining WWE. No sense in picking up the entire company and taking the risks associated with a horizontal merger with a company that seems to be a money pit.

What would be really cool is if Vince got rid of Main Event and Superstars and created a hybrid NXT/X-Division based show on say, Wednesday night, and kept the rights to the X-Division title with the six-sided ring and everything.

Tna was sold to Whoooooooooooooooooooooooo! Ric Flair Baby!!! The stylin profiling, Tna buying, Dixie Carter Riding Nature Boy!! and changes TNA to Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • JohnCena33

I bet there debt is greater than there value. But one million for the library, Sting, AJ, Joe, Angle, and a few others would be great.

  • JohnCena33

If he took a couple months off, he would be gold for about one last run or feud, the same goes for sting. I think AJ and Joe would be great for years.

  • Shawn Bronald

I wonder how much debt they have and how much would be included with any sale? In the end, if Vince paid only 1 million for the tape library and a select few contracts, I think it’d be a win. If he had to purchase the entire lot, debt and all, no deal.

  • millerj265

That may be the case as well.

  • kamalas leg

The grueling schedule got too much for him. Plus he refused help as wwe officials recommended. I just think wwe won’t waste any more time on Kurt

  • kamalas leg

    WAS gold.

  • ddfindl

    O__O

  • millerj265

If only, I wish the wwe had a true competitor, and man if they had two, things would get good real fast, sadly that wont happen anytime soon, if unfortunately ever again.

  • millerj265

Where angles at right now from a physical stand point, I highly doubt he could pass wwes physical evaluation to be cleared to wrestle, that’s not even taking into consideration his mental well being. I would say angle needs a solid 6 months to a yr off from wrestling, then he can come back for a 1yr, maybe a yr and a half final run, it wont happen though because angle just cant seem to stop or take the time off that he needs.

  • millerj265

If they weren’t willing to make WCW look strong, the only wrestling company to even come close to being competition, or even make there #1 baby face in Bryan look strong, I highly doubt they would give a crap about making TNA wrestlers look strong.

  • JohnCena33

So what is the price? WCW was sold for 7 million, TNA is not even close to that amount, so what, 1 million? WWE could easily afford that.

  • JohnCena33

You forgot to mention Kurt Angle as being gold.

  • Christian Hendrix

    Yay!

  • michael

I guess the Hogan/Bischoff magic is already obsolete. No offense but I like Bischoff as an on-screen guy. Hogan, well… he did great before… but now???

  • Shawn Bronald

Wow, deja vu all over again! Anyone wanna bet Eric will get an offer together, assume it’s all but a done deal, only to get a phone call while lounging on the beach that Mr. McMahon has swooped in and purchased the company?

  • Shawn Bronald

Congratulations, you’re the current high bidder.

  • adam

TNA was never really competition for wwe its the closest thing they had to it but truthfully it wasn’t. I have watched tna since the beginning back when it was on fox sports net. It was a great show back in the day when the x-division was the center point it had the six sided ring to be a little different. But ever since Dixie bought the company and Hogan and Bichoff came in its been awful. The best thing that could possibly happen for TNA is Dixie to sell it and let someone who knows about wrestling buy it from her family

The sad part is that so many of you seem to think that TNA going out of business and WWE going back to having “no competition” is a good thing. I guess all those wrestlers don’t really need to have places to make money, right?

  • http://retrorevelations.blogspot.com/ Jesse Moak

    Yeah……………………no thanks.

  • Dave

WWE will find a way to screw that up too.

  • d_pooch

Still smells like 1999, and I’m not smellin what you’re coookin. Sorry.

  • kamalas leg

Sting and AJ Styles are the only 2 I see as gold in TNA. Maybe Bubba Ray, but only if wwe bring back the Dudley Boys. People say Jeff Hardy yet forget he had his third strike on the wellness policy. (Which means very slim odds for ever seeing him again in a wwe ring.)

As a true pro wrestling fan I would hate for TNA to go under. I wanna see them grow for competition sake. I miss the days of Monday night wars, talent surprising us by debuting on Raw or Nitro, great storylines and of course ppv’s that were actually worth buying.

Also, if you ask me ROH has the pure in ring talent to compete with TNA and WWE, just not the financial ability. I would love to see all three excel. It would make pro wrestling fun for the fans again.

  • Minstrel_Period

    Sure.

Have a match where Triple H offers a title shot to the whole locker room in a big match where the whole roster brawls around the ladder with the belt hanging above. AJ Styles runs out from the crowd and pulls a Damien Sandow, stealing the belt then declaring himself the “Unified Champion” holding up both TNA and WHC.

Then on Impact, end the Aces and Eights Angle by having Bully Ray see “eye to eye” with Dixie. Have Stephanie McMahon show up to demand answers from Dixie about what happened on Raw. Dixie “knows nothing” and Stephanie serves her a lawsuit. She also issues a “Cease and Desist” order that no more Impact Wrestling will occur.

Then on Raw, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle and Sting come down through the crowd and “seize the ring”, interrupting a low-card match. The WWE Roster comes down and chases them out of the arena to a limo and they escape.

Next week on RAW, AJ Styles is “invited” to come down to the ring, and he offers to defend the “Unified World Championship” (TNA and WHC. Drop the TNA belt and refer to the WHC as the Unified World Championship for the purposes of the plot arc).

    AJ vs Cena is booked.

TNA Roster comes down, and invades/takes over NXT. Ultimately, TNA is “moved in” to NXT, with some of the lesser knowns being used on Raw/Smackdown to perform crush losses.

Have the “Main Event” TNA talent invade RAW/Smackdown to have AJ’s back and screw Cena. Then have Shane McMahon come down and say he bought “Impact Wrestling” and “signed the whole roster!!”. Booker can refer to his time in TNA, and so can RVD with a “who are you with”.

Sting, AJ, Hardy, Joe, Bully Ray, and Angle would stand with Shane and he can declare his intent to relaunch “Impact Wrestling” but first, he wants to take care of business here.

This incorporates the TNA roster as a “stable within WWE”. This, rather than the illusion of TNA being an outside organization would improve the angle quite a bit and eliminate fan confusion. They could have some fun matches on NXT, Raw and Smackdown.

This leaves options like “TNA vs WWE PPV” where if “TNA wins, they get to launch a show” and if timed correctly, they could actually launch a TNA show for a few months or convert Main Event to Impact Wrestling or something. Then they can use the “We need ratings” gimmick from the TNA general manager.

    My Bid Is £1

  • michael

Since WWE needs video libraries, they may take the bite. Invasion is again the storyline but make it more realistic. Run both shows, crossovers, and make the “so called” resistance/ invaders strong. Remove all flaws fron thd old angle.

  • xXx

i smell another invasion angle happening
