Chris Jericho reveals reason why original WrestleMania 33 plans got nixed

Chris Jericho

We noted before how Chris Jericho had revealed that the original plans for WrestleMania 33 were for him to win the Universal Championship and drop it to Brock Lesnar at the next PPV.

During the recent episode of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Chris once again talked about these plans and revealed the reason why they got nixed.

According to Jericho, Lesnar wanted to work with Goldberg after Survivor Series and Vince McMahon made the decision to go with the bigger box office attraction, nixing the plans involving Y2J:

One week later Survivor Series happens, Brock versus Goldberg. Goldberg beats Brock in a minute. And that’s when Brock went, ‘I can work with this guy [Goldberg]. I want to work with him. I’ll lose in a minute, but only if I can beat him for the title at WrestleMania.’ And Vince had to make a decision: what’s the bigger box office? Ya know and obviously it was Brock and Goldberg, and Chris and Kevin take back seat.

Chris Jericho ultimately faced Kevin Owens for the US Championship at WrestleMania and ended up losing the title to Owens during the show.

Yea, during his first run with the company. Now Zack Ryder would embarrass Lesnar. He’s a joke and shouldn’t be champion. Waste of time and a a waste of WWE money. He doesn’t even have to talk and only works a few times a year. I’d rather Cena be champion.

Lesnar is a great wrestler (or at least was). He hung with Angle, he can hang with jericho.

Jericho is to good for a Lesnar feud anyways, so was Styles.
