CM Punk Talks About Daniel Bryan, The UFC And The Hulk Hogan Controversy

Ted Gruber of Red Eye Chicago recently interviewed former WWE star and now UFC fighter CM Punk about the Hulk Hogan controversy as well as Daniel Bryan texting him when he announced that he joined the UFC. Here are the highlights.

On the Hulk Hogan controversy:

“I don’t really have a comment on it. Like I said, though, stuff that you say can come back and bite you in the ass. Everybody gets what they deserve in the world. Hopefully he issued a sincere apology and we can all move on from it.

“We all have said stupid things and I don’t think you should judge somebody on what they said a long time ago. But some of the stuff is harsher than other things. It is what it is.”

On Daniel Bryan texting him on his UFC career:

“I thought it was pretty cool. Everybody in WWE whether they admit it or not are big fans of the UFC. Like everything else they are 10 years behind the curve on everything, but they are slowly warming up to MMA. Now it’s all Ronda Rousey. But a couple of years ago when I mentioned her they told me the sport was despicable. Everything they are doing now is something I told them five years ago. They live in a bubble. When you are on the road this much, you are ‘all in’ and nothing else matters; I lived in a bubble.

“They built this empire and they are the best at what they do. But they still have no [bleeping] idea what goes on outside their bubble.”

Exactly. When Shamrock & Dan Serveran (typo I am sure) was in the WWF, I don’t even think people knew what MMA was lol.

  • CC

Also we have seen numerous times over the years that wrestlers, and even Shane McMahon if memory serves, are fans of MMA with the likes of Undertaker quite often attending events. Even have vague memories of HHH attending.
So no, they are not behind the curve at all. And as Chris E said in another post, they had several MMA guys in WWE long before it was fashionable to like MMA, and long before Punk ever joined WWE.

I like Punk, I really do, but sometimes he talks so much crap.

  • Chris E.

Jeez, they had Shamrock, and Dan Severn after both had been UFC Champs back when sport was cutting edge, and you fought three fights a night! I think WWE is a lot like any other big business, pay as little attention to anything your employees say. Punk still going on about UFC? Just tell him it is despicable, and that should keep him quiet for a few months.

  • Bilal Khawaja

I’m not sure I can agree with that. I seem to recall them trying to get me to look at Larry the Cable Guy last year.

  • Kristopher Robinson

I’m gonna have to disagree with him. I think WWE is usually always up with times, but that doesn’t mean they are on a wrestling level. Who cares what’s really going on outside of the WWE industry though IMO, all you need is a general consensus.
