CM Punk’s Status with WWE a Hot Topic Backstage

– With John Cena and Randy Orton being gone from last weekend’s WWE live events, CM Punk’s importance to the company was a hot topic backstage. The feeling right now is that only two guys really draw big for the company – John Cena and CM Punk.

There’s also a feeling that they need to get Punk to where he doesn’t end up beat up and worn out like Cena and so many other top talents are. People this weekend were saying that Punk was looking sick or worn down.

Punk is being compared to Bret Hart’s early days with WWE in the sense that he’s the company workhorse but doesn’t get the nod of approval that a John Cena or Hulk Hogan would get.

Like King said at the top Punk is better than Cena. He has more range and is a hell of a lot more believable in everything he does. The man can tell a story inside and outside of the ring. WWE dropped the ball last Summer when lighting striked and the first big moment for wrestling happened and they just pissed all over it punk and its momentum. HHH should of never stuck his nose in it but then again…can’t have a “skinny fat ass” like Punk being more over and the top guy of the company with little to no help now can we?

    isn’t that his current storyline?

I was at the UK tv tapings in Liverpool and it was like being at a Football (Soccer) or NFL match so majority of blokes and women were wearing CM Punk shirts. Plus he got cheered so loudly it was deafening.

He is a huge star in the UK.

i’ve personally only seen him as BIG since his ‘shoot promo/pipebomb’

I’m glad Punk is finally getting what he deserves. I bitched for years on here he never got a decent title run with the WHC. I never expected him to be WWE champion 300 plus days. I think Punk will walk away from WWE long before he gets permanently injured. I hate to think of the WWE without Punk, but he did say people would be suprised at how soon he would leave the WWE. Let’s hope they make the most of him while he’s around.

Buttercastle this is no dig at you mate but the Tag team division was far better back in the late 80’s-early 90’s when two guys were a proper tag team, with a gimmick and had same dress code and were billed as a proper team and not two random people put together. old survivor series matches where you had about 10-12 teams and not just a handful and half of which are just put together randomly

say wot you like hes the most interesting thing in the WWE at the moment

  • Joe John

What are you talking about? He’s been huge for a while, last year especially. Then you had his feud with Jeff Hardy too.

its funny how a little over a year ago nobody took nearly as much notice of CM Punk as they are now, I mean he was no Zack Ryder but he certainly wasn’t one of the biggest guys they had and now look at him

  • Jimbo

Vince made his bed by refusing to put new talent over Cena and Orton (especially Orton) so now this is where they are.

It’s sad that they realize that fact when there are only 2 or 3 big draws left in the company. Hopefully this new tag team division it will get as big as it was in the attitude era.

Funny they compared bret/hulk punk/cena because bret and punk were much better wrestlers and don’t get the recognition they deserve, .

Punk could out draw Cena if given the chance, just look at last year, pretty sure punk come close or was out selling cena in merch sales.
