CM Punk’s UFC Opponent Sits Down With Bret Hart

In the latest episode of his ‘Hart Family Vault’ WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart sat down with former WWE star CM Punk’s upcoming UFC opponent Mickey Gall. Gall discussed how he is trying to carve out his own legacy, similar to that of the one Hart made for himself in the WWE:

BH: I’m sure in your career you’ll look back on certain matches and go, “I was never better than this.” You’re going to get challenged with both offense and defensive geniuses in there. Sometimes it’s what you do to win the match defensively and there are times when you turn up the gears and you waste somebody. Give them everything you’ve got and take them down. It’s real Roman gladiator stuff for me. When I watch it I admire you guys so much and the sacrifice. To me there’s a certain beauty to it. Watching great UFC fighting. Same with boxing. I think if you grow up with fighting in general there’s sort of a science and a poetry to it that you don’t get in anything else.

MG: You know what’s really interesting about that Bret? You talking about being able to go back and watch those matches. Saying it’s hard work but those matches are there forever. You can always look back on that. That’s something I want. One of the things I want is I want some wars in my career. I want some good back and forth wars. They say, “Aw, the brain trauma! That’s not how you want to do it! Do it how you’ve been doing it. Just go in there and end it quick.” I want that beautiful piece of art. I’m a martial artist. I want to make art that I can look back on and say, “Hey, check this match out. Look at what we went through here.” Similarly to the way you are able to talk about that Steve Austin match. That’s something I want. That’s something I want to do.

BH: And you will have all those moments.
