The American Nightmare had an incredible 2018, holding the ROH World Title, NWA World Title, and the IWGP US Title throughout the year. Along with the success of All In, Cody Rhodes has been at the top of his game.
Sadly, the US Champion’s 2019 will start off with some much-needed surgery and time away from the ring. Rhodes tweeted over the weekend that he heard a “pop” in his knee while teasing a t-shirt toss.
While he was hoping for the best, he ended up being removed from ROH Global Wars. Rhodes was scheduled to defend his championship against Beretta this past Sunday.
Sadly folks I will not be able to wrestle tomorrow in Toronto. I will still be at the pre-show meet/greet to say hello to everybody
ROH & I will find a suitable replacement for the match. I’m extremely sorry. I’ll be able to confirm the extent of the issue after an MRI this week

Now, it seems that Rhodes will require some arthroscopic surgery. He revealed today that, while his MCL, PCL, and ACL were fine, there was indeed a large meniscus tear that would force him to go under the knife soon.
However, he stated that he’ll continue to work through his dates, at least until ROH Final Battle and Wrestle Kingdom 13 are done.
GOOD news is my doctor is fairly confident that my mcl/pcl/acl are structurally sound.
BAD news is the meniscus is fairly damaged, gonna’ require a scope. No dates will be adjusted at the moment, and I’ll definitely still compete in the final battle main event & at WK. pic.twitter.com/PtyK1wpoiz

Final Battle takes place on December 14th, with NJPW’s grand event following up on January 4th.
