(Updated) Dean Ambrose reportedly leaving WWE after WrestleMania

Dean Ambrose leaving WWE

Update: Pwinsider has provided some further detail on the contract Ambrose was offered with WWE reportedly offering him a seven-figure deal for 5 years which he declined.

He is said to be free to ‘do what he wants’ as the former Champion doesn’t have a lavish lifestyle and he has made great money since his run with the company having joined in 2011.

Original: While Chris Jericho signing with AEW could have been a shock to many within WWE, it appears another star could be leaving the company very soon, which would probably be an even bigger blow for the company.

According to a new report from Pwtorch, former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose has given his notice to the company, and he is expected to finish up after the upcoming WrestleMania 35 event.

Ambrose’s contract is expiring this April, and while the company has offered him a pay raise with a new contract, Dean informed them this week that he is not interested in negotiating further.

Similar to reports related to other stars, it’s said that Dean Ambrose has been frustrated with his bookings for a while. A large part of his character has been portrayed as hokey and Dean reportedly “hates hokey sh–”.

The Shield Member is one of the biggest stars of the current roster and a frequent main eventer. So him leaving the company, especially in the current climate could be a big problem for WWE.

More details regarding the situation should come out soon and it’d be interesting to see how this development affects the former Intercontinental Champion’s on-screen character in upcoming weeks.

An people also forget WCW had there own stars before they started paying 7 figures. AEW better build there own stars instead of getting old WWE stars otherwise it crush and burn.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

TNA had Dixie Carter and she had money what happen enough said.

  • CC

Absolutely laughable that he thinks AEW will offer him double what WWE offered him if they indeed offered him a seven figure deal. AEW is not WCW, and I doubt Kahn is going to throw money around like they did.

  • CC

If he was offered a 7 figure deal by WWE, AEW are not about to double that. Sorry to burst your bubble. AEW is not WCW.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I think this will make her wife job that much easier. She doesn’t have to be bias when it comes to her husband anymore because he will be somewhere else.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I actually think the AEW marks are going to be in for rude awakening. I think Jericho twitt told me all I need to know about AEW getting a WWE top star.

  • Rinn13

Again, I really think you seriously overestimate just how much money AEW has to throw around. Just because the owners of the Jaguars are filthy rich, doesn’t mean they’re going to just pour money into AEW, a new promotion that is a 100% unproven entity right now.

I don’t doubt they’ll try to sign many of these “top stars”. But I do doubt your estimations that these wrestlers will be able to make “double or better” what they’re making in WWE.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I bet Dean Amborse is not going anywhere this just the dirt sheet with there fake story. Dean Amborse could have years left on his contract.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

This could be another one of the long false story the dirt sheet been doing lately. But Chris Jericho Twitter told me there nobody in WWE really interested in AEW.

  • PrettyfnDangerous

True. I meant a shame for me, really. I watch WWE so it kind of sucks that I may not be able to see him on TV for a while because I am a fan of his. But for sure, he has a bright future regardless. Curious to see where he goes.

This happens a lot when one person is in NXT and the other is on the main roster, but they make it work. Mickey James is married to the NWA champion and they have seemed fine for years. I’m sure they discussed this before he made this decision and have figured something out. Besides, with WWE wanting to show that they are serious about giving women a chance, they won’t do anything to Renee that’s dumb. Otherwise, she has always had the option of being with ESPN or FS1 if she wants to.

  • StoneColdBeckyLynch

It would be interesting tbh. Would WWE lowkey bury Renee until she eventually has enough? Or will she cheat and remarry?

  • StoneColdBeckyLynch

How is this a shame? He made millions of dollars, worked a full time schedule, and now he gets time off. He even gets it right after mania. How many times do mid to upper card wrestlers even get to get their release? It’s not like he can’t wrestle anymore.
The wrestling scene is blooming rn,
and promotions would love to have Jon Moxley

  • AEW mark

I think this confirms that AEW are about to get one of WWEs top guys. AEW will offer him double the money and a lighter schedule and he can feud with kenny omaga and make serious coin. AJ styles and other big names will likely make the jump to AEW this year because of the huge amount of money that they can make there.

  • CC

So here is a question if he quits. What will that do for his marriage?
Yes he could potentially get a lighter schedule elsewhere, but with his wife still in WWE, it would make it very difficult for them to see each other as much.
At least with guys like Styles etc who is married to someone outside the business, if Dean signs for somewhere else, there would be a lot of conflicts in scheduling I am sure.

  • oppa

They’ll job him out and not give him a Mania payday. The fact that they can’t do a Shield reunion when Roman comes back will hurt also. The biggest problem may be that IF he ever comes back, he may have gained enough leverage to come back as Jon Moxley. If AEW allows guys to keep the gimmicks they own the rights to, that will be a big game changer to how WWE does business from now on. Hence, part of the reason why they want to resign people and keep them financially happy.

  • PrettyfnDangerous

Interesting, if this is actually the case. A shame, though. Loved his character before, but since his return…eh. I was waiting for him to be a total badass after the Shield split up, he had so much heat and was set up for greatness…but they had him do this silly Bane knockoff junk that didn’t make any sense whatsoever and it quickly fell flat.

  • AKPunk91

I like Dean Ambrose a lot. He was my favorite part of the Shield BUT when the shield broke up the Lunatic Fringe character can only go in so many directions. When I realized the limit of his character was when he won the WWE Championship. That first feud with Ziggler was so bad because how does a guy with no real clear motivations for being the WWE Champion win the WWE Championship? How when Ziggler expresses his thirst for a world title and his assurance that he’d beat Ambrose be met with only “No you won’t. Your passion isn’t enough.” It was stale quick and directionless and Cena and Styles were in only a few WEEKS later.
