- TNA President Dixie Carter recently spoke with Tennessean.com. Here are some highlights:

How has TNA changed with the times?

We’re not just a wrestling company anymore. We do our own booking. We do our own promotion and public relations. We’re a licensing company. We have toys, Halloween costumes, trading cards. We make our own music. All of those things are sold and promoted around the world. But we still do more than 500 hours of television a year.

How has TNA been able to keep up with WWE?

I don’t care who you are, competition makes you better. There’s a reason there’s a Lowe’s across the street from every Home Depot and a CVS across the street from every Walgreens. I think we’ve made WWE better, just as they’ve improved us.

How does TNA find its talent?

We have a program called Ohio Valley in the Kentucky-Ohio area where we send some of our talent for training and where people come from all over the world to train. It’s like a farm league. We have people work on a skill — and sometimes we’ll bring in one of our developing wrestlers from there into a storyline. We’ve found a couple of our big stars from there.

What’s one of TNA’s ongoing challenges?

When a company first starts out, you have to do whatever you can to get into the business. Then, once you’re established, you spend a lot of time getting out of all the bad contracts that got you into the business. Deals with companies, bad partnerships or licensing deals. We’re still working through some of those now that we’ve found our footing.

It is pretty simple dixie get rid pf old flair and hogan. hogan and flair are not big money makers they were in wcw wwf days. they are not drawing big ratings or big ppv buys. hogan and flair are waste of money and tv time. heck hogan has rent center commericals. so fired hogan he can do rentcenter commericals. hogan flair 1990’s- big draw no doubt. 2011= can’t draw a dime!

tna is a alternative somthing to watch during week besides wwe. it is not compettion at all. I am a main stream fan. I wish there way more pro wrestling companies onn tv. I wish roh, or shimmer got a tv deal. so i could see more wrestling than just tna or wwe.

I know I have been known to bash TNA a lot mainly because wish they were a competition to the WWE. The problem is they are an have always been to much in a rush to be a competition to the WWE. They really should have taken things a little more slowly learn from WCW mistake. But the problem is they have made the same mistake but made them even bigger. At least when WCW was going up against WWE at first WCW had a darn good young talent. The thing was WCW never push those young talent an everything in WCW became old the same way TNA is becoming. I mean as soon as WWE lets somebody go TNA is so quick to sign that talent thinking hey we can make this guy bigger in TNA. The thing is when WWE signs a TNA talent they make sure that the TNA talent don’t get into the main event right away. In WWE you have to earn your way to the top but in TNA if you are an ex WWE guy you don’t have to earn anything just being an ex WWE guy is good enough. That is what has to change in TNA in order to be a big threat to WWE.

Like Robert Roode being TNA champion that was a good thing for TNA. The problem is he didn’t win it against Kurt Angle like he should have. Why because Hogan didn’t want Robert to out shine him. It is been Hogan ego since his really wrestling career has been over. Hogan don’t want any young talent out shine him. Hey say what you will about how bad HHH is but at least HHH don’t mind at all being out shine by the young talent if given the right push. To me I rather have HHH running my company then Hogan any day. Yeah both have big ego but HHH can put his ego a side for the wrestling business as a whole. Prime example HHH could have had his feud with Kevin Nash for Survoir Series but HHH step a side to let the young talent show there stuff. An HHH didn’t want to over shadow The Rock return to the ring an CM Punk WWE title win. See HHH can step a side from the spotlight to better the wrestling business Hogan he can not. That is why I rather have HHH running my federation then Hogan.

So Dixie Carter if you really want to be a completion to the WWE which I really wish you can become to the WWE. Drop Hogan, Eric Bicoff and the rest of the old WWE guys because they are killing your company. I am not saying get rid of all the old WWE talent just the one who best days are really gone an are only around to boast there ego an not save TNA. Keep building up your young guys like you been lately don’t let Jeff Hardy take the title off of Robert Roode. You have to build around some young talent mightiest will start with Roode. You see yeah I bash TNA a lot but it is not TNA I hate. It is all those old WWE wrestler an there big egos. To me that is what is killing TNA. Get rid of the egos and maybe you can become a competition to the WWE. Until that happens don’t see TNA a threat.

500 hours of tv a year? Wouldn’t that work out to nearly 10 hours a week?

Thats the difference dixie and tna view wwe as compititon but wwe hardly notices tna for the most part. Ya wwe “sends” there talent to orlando. Angle they droped because he said he wanted to enter rehab and better himself so vince said i can respect that go and come back when your ready then he jumps to tna. Christian leaves for a little while evenutally comes back. Jeff hardy is droped then goes to tna then comes back to wwe then gets in trouble with drugs and goes back to tna. RVD leavs after the royal rumble but wants to come back to the E. and the biggest one because he started it Jeff Jarrett is so dilusional about his company that he cant understand they are struggling and shouldnt of ever hired hogan and bichoff or let dixie become the owner.

How has TNA changed with the times?

We’re not just a wrestling company anymore

Well thats apparent when you have only 8 minutes of wrestling on your show.

  • Dylan

@MJ, arent kaz and aj styles wwe rejects as well lol?

  • DuffManLovesHimSomeWrestling

“I don’t care who you are, competition makes you better. There’s a reason there’s a Lowe’s across the street from every Home Depot and a CVS across the street from every Walgreens. I think we’ve made WWE better, just as they’ve improved us.”

Nice dodging the question Ditsy. TNA will never be able to keep up to a juggernaut that is WWE. Would be nice if they could somehow so it would improve both shows. Right now we have a soap opera seemingly aimed at rednecks(TNA) & TreeHouse TV(WWE) aimed at the children.

WWE has been around for nearly 60 years! TNA has been around for 9 years. WWE has millions watching because all of us watched it when we were little and there are alot of loyal fans.

TNA’s loyal fans usually bash wwe and say that TNA is the greatest company in the world yet isn’t it funny how everytime a wwe superstar gets fired TNA hires them? TNA has signed Tommy dreamer, the ECW cast offs, RVD, Jeff hardy, shannon moore, orlando jordan, the pope, team 3d aka dudley boys, scott stenier, booker t, kurt angle, hogan, bishoff, victoria, gail kim, mickie james, christian, tomko, sharmell, raven, the list goes on and on.

Now look at the originals that had to take a backseat because of them getting hired. AJ Styles, Robert Roode, james storm, Kaz,samoa joe have all been effected. AJ styles has won world titles and yet he still seems like a midcarder because TNA was so focused on sting vs angle they put aj in the tag team or x divison, Kaz still stuck in the x divison, james storm had a failed singles push and now he gets a main event push, Robert roode could have been a top star by now if TNA would have booked him right. I wanna say something about samoa joe. This guy was a killer but now TNA destroyed him.

All of those guys i just said have been getting pushed and depushed for 10 years.

TNA needs better writers and storytellers.

  • http://google the dude

I bash tna a lot but at the end of the day I a lot respect for their trying to do with that said wwe is an entertainment juggernaut and its going to take a lot more than what their doing now to compete with wwe

  • PinkSinCara

TNA hasn’t caused WWE to improve, because WWE simply doesn’t care. WWE HAS allowed TNA to improve (marginally), by releasing its talent and setting them free to roam Orlando.

  • PIG

It wouldnt be a TNA story without douchebag Venom and his negative comments. Now troll on back the WWe section and polish Vinces knob.

  • venom

TNA looks for their talents from OVW? Last time I checked, they get their talents from ECW and WCW. What is Dixie going to do when Flair, Hogan, Angle, Sting, and RVD all decide to retire? They are at the age where they can retire anyday. They should be okay if they continue to push Roode and Storm.

  • Valo487

Competition is good. That being said, TNA will never be serious competition until they try to be something other than a copy of WWE. No one is ever going to dethrone Vince McMahon when it comes to sports entertainment, so why try? If they had adopted a style like ROH, they might actually be perceived as a legitimate alternative. As it is now, they’re just more of the same, not done as well.

  • Jared

At least there is no one on here saying how they suck or should go outta business. competition is great. and seeing TNA grow from 2004 (thats when i first saw them) is a huge improvement. from going from fox sports to spike tv for an hour than the two. from doing bound for glory outside of their comfort zone to hosting ppvs and now constantly touring for house shows and now testing the waters with doing impact outside Orlando is definitely a great improvement. it’s hard to take on something that has been there for like a 100 years. Most people like underdogs and wants to see them succeed.

  • Kris

They have already found people from there, they jsut started contracting with them a few months ago and I havent seen anyone new on TV since then

  • Albert

I like both TNA and WWE .. just sating :)their both different and similar in ways, YET BOTH ENTERTAINING!
