Dixie Carter Open to WWE/TNA Crossover Event

– TNA’s President Dixie Carter recently spoke to Digital Spy and revealed she is open to the idea of an event where WWE and TNA talent would go head-to-head in a cross-promotional event.

Carter revealed that the rivalry between the two brands is beneficial to both sides, and most importantly, the fans

“I don’t think [the WWE] shares my belief in this, but I believe that competition is 100% positively essential,”

“I think it’s important for fans and for us. To have one company dominate, a) it’s boring, and b) you are not being challenged enough. It’s always better to have other options out there and I truly believe it makes both companies better.”

When asked if she would open to WWE and TNA talent appearing on the same shows, she said: “I absolutely would do that. I’m not sure if they would do that, but I absolutely would.”

Carter closed by saying she is “very proud” of the company’s achievements on “limited resources”, and that her aim is still to become “the most successful wrestling company in the world”.

Do I think it will happen…hell no. Vince is a lot more hard headed then he was back in 2000. To Vince he wont let that happen because he might loose fans to TNA

I agree with her. WWE did it back in the day with ECW and TNA is just a little bigger then ECW when they cloths. Hell WWE even did a WWE vs WCW match on ECW TV with ECW Champion: Mike Awesome (WCW) vs Taz (WWE) and Tommy Dreamer (ECW) vs ECW Champion: Taz (WWE) in the same night.

  • Vince would roll over and die before he would agree to this if triple h was running the show she would have a better chance but even then its unlikely that he would do it.. each companies writers are gonna want to have thier wrestlers go over and win.. so it would be a nightmare.. it would be a good chance for each promotion to try to steal people is about what she would be doing.. dixie should just hand the company to vince if shes gonna keep doing this sucking up to wwe.. you cant do that and be a business lady… dixie has to be more cutthroat then kind.

Actually you are correct, it wouldn’t help WWE in the sense of getting more viewers, and would help TNA gather more least in the near future. However, what it does help is the actual business of pro wrestling. It would help TNA grow as a company into a strong number 2 organization, allowing them more resources to develop and make younger talent superstars due to heightened main stream viewers.

This in turn could possibly create another boom period in wrestling, which then it would benefit WWE with more viewers. So short term pay off you are right, it wouldn’t change much for the WWE. Long term pay off, and this is assuming it’s done correctly (trying to be optimistic here), could be beneficial to both companies with stronger viewership due to strong, healthy competition.

Vince would really have to trust Dixie to do something like this, and hope she don’t try to do what Bischoff did; but it’s unlikely but I can see where it could be beneficial to everyone. Especially the business as a whole. Competition is a good thing.

    1. Her line is what every “number 2” believes.

    2. If a co-event happened, Vince would only agree if every TNA talent gets candidly jobbed to NXT wrestlers.

    3. They would replay clips of Samoa Joe vs Esse Rios.

    4. They would have Aces and Eights get beat down and destroyed by The Shield.

    5. Most of the TNA wrestlers either retired from WWE, got released from WWE or will never be good enough for WWE.

    wont ever happen

  • I would love to see it especially a Daniel Bryan vs Aj styles match

Where does it say that they would do a whole years worth of crossover? That would never happen as it would be a logistical nightmare. On top of that, if you think a TNA crossover would make WWE more watchable, this bringing in higher viewing figures, then you are deluding yourself.
TNA would certainly gain a lot more viewers as WWE has a bigger viewship who would transfer over. How many of the 1million or so TNA viewers already watch WWE? I would hazard a guess that its a good portion of them, maybe half, maybe more. Meaning in the USA alone, WWE would be lucky to gain anything more that 50,000 or so viewers while the angle is on.
If TNA was as big as WCW, then yeah, both sides would have something to gain, but at this point in time a TNA/WWE crossover would do no more business for WWE than when ECW “invaded”.

Oh, and even if it was running for a whole year, do you really think booking would be great at the outset then? Do you think the WCW Invasion was booked well at any point?

  • ddfindl

Bullshit, it would make both programs watchable for at least the next year until the poor booking and story lines ruin it.

And why wouldnt she? TNA would have a lot to gain from it. WWE though wouldnt get much from it.
