Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic announced; winners to challenge for NXT Tag Titles

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic on NXT. The annual tournament that began in 2015 took a break last year, probably due to the fact that the WWE already had two tournaments planned for the year; the UK Tournament and the Mae Young Classic.

However, after a two-year hiatus, the tournament is back. Last night on NXT, William Regal announced that the tournament would return.

The #DustyClassic begin in two weeks, and Regal also revealed that the winners of this tournament would take on the current NXT Tag Team Champions at NXT Takeover: New Orleans.

While the first tournament was sort of odd, putting mixes of singles competitors over legit tag teams, the tournament from 2016 made up for those mistakes. TM-61 would take on the Authors of Pain in the finals in what would be a hellacious fight. The Authors of Pain would go on to dominate most of the 2017 year, while injuries would sideline Thorne and Miller until 2018.

The tournament will begin on March 7.
