Eric Bischoff Denies Backstage Heat on Hulk Hogan and New Deal with 2K Sports

– As noted earlier, there is heat on Hulk Hogan within TNA for booking a licensing deal with 2K Sports to appear in the WWE 2K14 video game. Eric Bischoff has denied those reports, stating that there is no deal between 2K and Hogan. Bischoff posted the following on Twitter:

“Interesting to read the ‘choir of idiots’ suggesting that Hulk did a deal with 2K Sports. Illustrates just how ignorant these ‘experts’ are And how these ‘experts’ are attempting to frame a narrative to sell thier b.s.”

“There is no Hulk Hogan/2K Sports deal. WWE is simply utilizing tradmarks/assets they currently own in a repackaged video game. Nothing new. But thats not what the parasites and morons who run dirt sites want you to know.”

A game engine for a particular game and a game engine for multi-console use are two completely different things which you seemingly don’t understand. The AKI/Asmik games used the same engine from Virtual Pro Wrestling all the way through Def Jam Vendetta. The basic model of a the wrestlers stayed the same. Obviously going from PS1 to N64 to GameCube you saw better looking models of the wrestlers, but the engine was still the same and basic character model is still the same.

Having a better looking model does not change the fact that it is still the same model. The models used for Hogan in WWE 2K14 are the same models used in LOW.

Here is footage from 2K14 with the Ultimate Warrior wrestling Randy Savage.

Here is his entrance from LOW

Here is Hulk Hogan from LOW

And here is the character reveal of most of the major players from WWE 2K14 including Hogan and Warrior.

As you can see, the entrances are the same, the moves are the same, and the models are the same. They are using the same sprites. Period. It’s not a big deal. Just a fact you should realize. You are welcome to believe what you wish, but I’ve proved my point here and are moving on.

the same game engine means nothing. I mean, look how many games use the Unreal game engine, doesnt mean they reuse pixels or anything else. An engine is just the basic fundamental on how the game runs, everything else is built from the ground up and added on. Of course they have basic elements they reuse, but to reuse graphics from 6 or 7 years ago is not going to happen. The basic model, yes, but new graphics will be developed around that model.

They have been using the same engine for better than 6 years. I’ve already seen the sprites. They are exactly the same. Also, you can make new skins for a model without having to make a new one. Once a model is created is it easy to tweak and there is no need to do new ones. Even if the textures and resolution get better with more powerful hardware, the models are still the same. It’s been that way for better than a decade for fighting games and sports games.

WWE 2K14 is using the exact same engine that has been used in every WWE game going all the way back to at least ’07 except for WWE All-Stars which was a brand-new engine. We won’t see new sprites until the contract with Yukes expires and 2K Sports takes over the development of WWE games and not just producing them.

highly doubtful they are using the same sprites considering how old that game is, and how the graphics have come along since then. Plus, I dont seem to remember Hollywood Hogan being in Legends of WM.

  • D2K

He does have point. From what I can tell they are using the same exact sprites for Hogan as used in WWE Legends Of Wrestlemania. Since that game is already published and Hogan was paid for it already 2K can use those sprites however they wish.
