Goldust reveals he agreed to ‘Androgynous’ gimmick without knowing the meaning of it

Goldust has one of the most bizarre gimmicks the WWE audience has ever seen, however, during a recent episode of WWE Network’s Photo Shoot, he revealed that he had agreed to the gimmick without realizing what Mr. McMahon had in mind.

The episode will be released soon and WWE posted a promo video where Dustin Rhodes, the man behind the gimmick talked about how he acquired the role.

According to him, Vince McMahon had called him and talked about an ‘Androgynous’ gimmick and the former WCW star agreed to it without knowing the meaning of the word.

Later he picked up the dictionary to know the meaning of the word Mr. McMahon was using repeatedly and when he realized it, his jaw dropped:

“At this point in my career I wanted to kind of do something on my own, step out of my father’s shadow and try to accomplish something as Dustin, away from the Rhodes name just a little bit, I guess, I just said, ‘OK, let’s do this.’ And I hung up the phone, and immediately I ran to the dictionary and looked up androgynous. And my jaw dropped, ‘What did I just get myself into?’”

Goldust was fired from WCW back in 1995 for blading during a match and the former Hardcore Champion then debuted as Goldust for WWE in August at the same year.
