Has Matt Hardy retired after a recent live event?

Matt Hardy has been working backstage over the past few months, adjusting to an off-screen role as his in-ring career winds down. After a live event in Corpus Christi, Texas, it seems that the Woken One has decided to hang up the boots.

Hardy posted a video to his YouTube page, stating that the event on September 15 was his final scheduled appearance as “Woken” Matt Hardy, stating that it was time for him to go home.

Hardy took time to thank his friends, family, and fans before revealing that this would most likely be the last time the WWE Universe would see the Woken One in a WWE ring.

It seems that Matt Hardy has decided to leave the ring to spend more time with his family. If this is the end of Hardy’s in-ring career, we’d like to thank him for entertaining us throughout the years.

“Matt Facts” – man, I’d forgotten about those!

I agree, and yet the Feud between the Dudley’s, E&C are classic. The audience would appreciate the fact that the WWE could choose them both simply because they were with “Freebird” Heye’s and had excellent matches on their own as well.

    That’s what I thought too.

True. And they’ve done a pretty good job at not making an official statement one way or the other. It’s enough to keep people guessing, just in case he somehow gets a final run.

Whatever he does next, I’ve definitely enjoyed his evolution throughout his career. Hopefully with the past few years, he’s finally broken out of his brother’s shadow in the eyes of some fans.

The annoying thing is that Jeff is the one that consistently gets all the praise and pushes, yet for me Matt always had the better gimmicks and angles than Jeff. Beyond his image and his spot monkey stuff, Jeff was always so dull. One of his best feuds was with Punk, but it was Punk that made the feud, not Jeff.
Matt on the other hand had his V1 gimmick, which had one of the best entrances with “Matt facts” and a great entrance theme by Monster Magnet. His angle with losing weight for the cruiserweight title was one of the best angles at the time. Then there was the fantastic odd couple team of him (the baby face) and MVP (the heel) winning the tag team titles. Something the whole Sheamus/Cesaro angle owed a lot to.
And of course his invention of the broken/woken universe.

He may not have been a Jericho level guy for re-inventing himself, but he was certainly head and shoulders above his over hyped brother.

The only thing I would say on this is the way the video ended and the wording “this is the final time you will see Woken Matt Hardy in a WWE ring” could just mean he is retiring the character.
Also the way the guys said “what is next?” and Matt’s reply, it all came across as kinda storyline based rather than reality.

Not saying he is not having medical issues, and is not retiring completely, but the whole tone of this video kinda felt like a work.
