Huge Update On The WWE Brand Split

WWE made the decision to have a brand split within the last few weeks. SmackDown going live on Tuesday nights on the USA Network has been talked about for a while now.

Vince McMahon is reportedly ‘pumped up” about the brand split as he has several ideas for SmackDown. The draft will take place on the July 11th episode of RAW in Detroit. It’s said that many talents have no idea which brand they will end up on.

WWE will be calling up more stars from NXT to help fill the two main rosters. Also, WWE plans to go after NJPW and Mexico talents.

The Intercontinental Title is expected to be on RAW while the United States Title will be on SmackDown. The WWE Tag Team Titles will likely be on both shows. There are people within WWE that are under the impression that the Women’s division will be exclusive to one show.

There is a lot of talk of having one WWE Title, and WWE will use that champion on both shows.

The only way another brand-extension works is if Shane McMahon goes back into an administrative capacity and is given full creative control over ether RAW or Smackdown. Anything outside of that IMHO is a colossal waste of time.

All the more reason RAW should shrink to 2 hours.

  • Solid

All the more room for pointless backstage skits, product placement and Raw guest hosts. 😛

I wonder how this will work with Raw being 3 hours and Smackdown being only 2. I’m thinking since they’re both going to be on USA on back-to-back days, and with a reduced roster they’ll cut Raw to 2. At least, that’s my hope.

Lack of competition causes laziness. MNW raw and nitro head to head thriving off each others success. Brand extension was good for show casing so much talent but writers lost creativity when world lost competition

  • Khosrow

The ratings tanked due to Smackdown being treated as a B Show and bad writing. Lack of competition is/was not an excuse for laziness.

Not quite, the brand extension was to try and solve the issue of so many stars from the takeover of EWCW. So was to allow time by having exclusivity to brands. The rating tanked due to the lack of competition, not the extention

  • Yeah, because the brand split worked out so well the first time they did it. As I recall, that was one of the main reasons that ratings tanked compared to what they used to be and have never recovered.
