While there is still uncertainty about Alberto Del Rio’s status as the undisputed GFW Champion following his suspension, an indie promotion has announced that they are stripping him of their World Championship.
World Association of Wrestling, an indie wrestling promotion owned by Paige’s family revealed via press release that they are stripping Del Rio of the WAW World Heavyweight Championship.
Though interestingly enough, the promotion did not even mention Alberto in any manner in their press release and they only announced that the championship is now vacant and a tournament will be held to determine a new champion. Below is an excerpt of their statement:
“The WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship has been declared vacant at last night’s Academy Show in Costessey, following a unanimous decision by the WAW Championship Committee
A 32 man tournament has been announced to determine a new Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion over the course of the rest of 2017 with the final taking place at Epic Studios, Norwich in December. The entrants into this tournament will be deliberated by the WAWCC over the coming weeks before brackets are announced.”
It’s worth mentioning here that despite all the reports of fights and break up, Alberto Del Rio and Paige were seen together once again yesterday in San Antonio.
