James Ellsworth reflects on his improbable year in WWE

James Ellsworth made his WWE television debut last July as an enhancement talent for Braun Strowman. His job was simple, go down to the ring and get his ass kicked by Strowman. However, his bizarre look and his “any man with two hands has a fighting chance” catchphrase before the match causes the WWE Universe to get behind him. Ellsworth did indeed get his ass kicked on the July 25th, 2016 episode of RAW, but wound up joining WWE’s main roster shortly after.

Ellsworth has been a part of some major storylines since joining the main roster. He played a part in the feud between AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose. With some assistance from Ambrose of course, Ellworth was even able to defeat AJ Styles on SmackDown. Now, Ellsworth accompanies Carmella to the ring every Tuesday night on SmackDown. Ellsworth initially helped Carmella win the MITB briefcase by interfering in the match and dropping the case down to Carmella from the top of the ladder at WWE Money in the Bank in June. SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan later stripped Carmella of the briefcase and stated that the match needed to happen again.

Carmella wound up winning the MITB ladder match once again and this time grabbed the briefcase on her own. Ellsworth tried to get involved in the second MITB ladder match, but Becky Lynch shoved him off the ladder and he landed crotch-first on the top rope. Daniel Bryan suspended Ellsworth for 30 days and fined him $10,000 the following week because he kept interfering and disobeying his orders.

Ellsworth made his return to SmackDown on August 8th. Since then, he has had a bit of a rocky relationship with Carmella. Last week, he spoiled Carmella’s plans to cash in her MITB contract as she was teamed up with SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya. On Tuesday night, Carmella lashed out at Ellsworth and said that she didn’t need him anymore. Later on SmackDown, Ellsworth begged Carmella for forgiveness backstage. Carmella then gave him a kiss, only to then smack him in the face and walk away.

Ellsworth posted the following on Facebook last night and has since deleted the post:

“In less then a years time, I’ve pinned AJ Styles who was WWE champion at the time, won a match at MSG, entered in the royal rumble, had a WM moment, grabbed the MITB briefcase, and kissed Carmella, follow your dreams people.”
