McGuinness Hard on Himself for Not Making It To WWE, Comments on Punk & Bryan

– Former TNA and Ring of Honor star Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe), who is now retired, told The Daily Star that he has been hard on himself for not making it to WWE.

Nigel added that he is proud of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan for making it to the big show:

“I can’t watch WWE. It’s just too painful. I am forever happy that Dragon and Punk got to that stage, to prove that those of us that paid our dues and did well on the Independents were as good as the hype. I’m not sure I’ll ever come to terms with not getting to WWE, but the fact that Dragon did somehow makes it OK.”

Before McGuinness signed with TNA a few years back, it was reported that he was about to sign with WWE until they rescinded their contract offer. Reports were that McGuinness failed WWE’s pre-screening medical tests for something that was not a drug failure.

    @ devil rising

maybe kamala’s foot should look up the word schadenfreude in the thesaurus.

but i’ll save him the time schadenfreude is a german word it means the pleasure derived from someone else’s misfortune.

@Devil-Rising I couldn’t have said it any better myself, thank you.

Basing your screen name on the unfortunate tragedy that occurs in one wrestler’s life, as if it’s funny, doesn’t really lend your posts credibility.

Honestly, I think I read it somewhere, but I might have confused a broken neck with something else (idiotically, I apologize). But I def read something somewhere about herpes possibly not being the reason and it being something else. Either way, it’s a fucking shame. He’s too young and talented. Plus, he was probably the most out of him, Punk, and Bryan to actually look like WWE heavyweight champ material.

I’m honestly pretty sure that McGuiness failed some concussion tests or soemthing. Yea, the hep C thing would be a big red flag, but he’s not gonna completely retire from it. Abdullah the Butcher didn’t, and neither did that guy who’s suing the WWE right now. McGuinness has clearly jsut put his body through the ringer far too many times. Wrestling with concussions, torn biceps, and other serious injures gets to you over time. He’ll always live on in my heart as the greatest English wrestler ever. Yes, William Regal is easily up there, but Nigel jsut had something about him. He had this swagger that no one else has ever had. Thank you Nigel for all that you’ve done. I’m still missing you, and I always will.

what a pity nigel didnt make it to the big league i always thought he was a good performer but i think if he did make it to the wwe they wouldnt do much with his charecter & he’ll just fade into the background & then we’ll be reading a story saying “the wwe would like to wish former talent nigel mcguinness all the best in his future endeavors”

  • jigsaw

nigel was a great wrestler i did enjoy his work& it was a pity he wasnt in the wwe but if he was i feel they wouldnt do much with him.

@bawb where did you hear the broken neck story?

he hasn’t disclosed why he retired but it’s obvious it’s due to his messed up biceps (both arms) and multiple concussions.

  • heyfit

    I heared he has herpes.

  • Bawb

What exactly was the cause for his retirement? I hear rumors of Hep C and a broken neck, but I can’t find confirmation anywhere.

His condition was spotted even before signing to TNA. He is a great wrester but it a fail for TNA just to sign anybody without the medical fact til later.
