Mexican Wrestler Tragically Dies During Match With Rey Mysterio and TNA Stars

We are saddened to report AAA superstar Perry Aguayo Jr. has tragically died this morning, aged 35, after suffering a fatal injury during a match where he teamed with TNA’s Manik vs. Rey Mysterio and Extreme Tiger (TNA’s Tigre Uno) at a CRASH Wrestling event in Tijuana.

According to reports, Aguayo was kicked by Mysterio to set up the 6-1-9 and harshly struck his head on the ropes while going down to get in position to take the finisher. The cause of death is believed to have been cervical spine trauma caused by that blow to the head.

A video of the aftermath shows Aguayo Jr. to be unconscious on the ropes and then Perkins, Konnan (serving as a road agent for the show) and Mysterio all check on him. The remaining three wrestlers improvise and finish the match, while staff attempt to revive Ramirez.

He is then stretchered out and taken to Del Prado Hospital where was pronounced dead at 1AM local time.

AAA released the following statement:

The grief overwhelms our hearts. Rest in peace, El Hijo del Perro Aguayo.

On behalf of Wrestling-Edge, our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Perro Aguayo Jr.
