The WWE United States title was on the line earlier tonight as part of the Royal Rumble Kickoff Pre-Show. Rusev defended his United States Title against Shinsuke Nakamura.
It was the second match of the event, which took place after a tag team match between Gable & Roode against the team of one half of the AoP and Scott Dawson one half of the Revival.
It was a very even match, with both competitors giving it their all to become the champion. Towards the end of the match, Nakamura went to the corner and untied the turnbuckle, exposing the metal underneath. Lana jumped on the apron to get the referee’s attention of what Nakamura did. However, the referee was more focused on Lana being on the apron.
Lana was then knocked to the floor, which distracted Rusev and allowed Shinsuke to hit Rusev with the Kinshasa to the back of his head and neck. Nakamura then pinned Rusev for the win and is now the new United States Champion.
