A few weeks ago NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa helped Jonny Gargano beat Aleister Black in a cage match and after the bout; he suggested that his former partner should be given a title match against Ricochet.
After Gargano himself demanded the same later, it became clear that the company was planning a match between the two and now it has been made official.
WWE confirmed on their website that Ricochet will be defending his North American title against Gargano and this match will be taking place at the upcoming NXT Takeover: Phoenix event.
After this announcement, the number of matches which have officially been confirmed for the show has become 4. You can check out the updated match card for the event below:

- Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Bianca Belair for the NXT Women’s title
- Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet (c) for the North American championship
- War Raiders vs. Undisputed ERA (c) for the NXT Tag titles
NXT Takeover: Phoenix takes place on Saturday, January 26th, the day before Royal Rumble from the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
