Nick Diaz Defends Title Against Evangelista Santos At Strikeforce Event On 1/29

Welterweight champion Nick Diaz is set to defend his title in a main event bout against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos at Strikeforce’s January 29th event in San Jose, California for the welterweight championship.

While it was previously reported that Diaz was set for a bout with rival Jason “Mayhem” Miller, for reasons unknown, the fight never came together. Miller was then slated to face fellow middleweight contender Tim Kennedy, but for unknown reasons, the planned rubber match is off as well.

Planning to defend the 170 pound title, Diaz (23-7) hopes to avenge his most recent loss from 2007 with his eighth straight win, whereas Santos (18-13) is still riding a first-round knockout over Marius Zaromskis during his welterweight debut back in June.

Strikeforce also announced three more fights including Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Robbie Lawler, Herschel Walker vs. Scott Carson, and Roger Gracie vs. Trevor Prangley.
