Nick’s Quick Wits-I’ll Believe It When I See It

This is the time of year, not only for the road to WrestleMania, but also the time that one of the most infamous rumors in wrestling makes the rounds. Every year around this time we hear the rumor “Sting in talks to WWE.” Every year the result is the same, he doesn’t sign. Why would this year be any different? I personally, am getting tired of hearing this. I don’t believe he has signed, the only way I will believe it is when he shows up on live on WWE TV.

I‘m not saying I don’t want to see him in WWE. He is a legend and would bring in fans, but the rumor has been beaten into the ground so much it’s lost it’s credibility. While it say that, there is a little interesting tidbit this year. Sting recently did a Q & A session somewhere (forgive me I don’t remember where) where he said that he would like for his last match to be against The Undertaker. The only way for that to happen, would be for him to sign with WWE.

Sting is perhaps the biggest name in wrestling that has never worked for WWE. It would be a huge deal and would garner interest from fans and even non-fans. Why should he sign now after all the years of turning them down in the past? I for one, thing it would be to give himself a proper farewell. He may have had one in TNA, but nobody watches TNA, so it wouldn’t be memorable. If his swan song took place in WWE at WrestleMania, it would be remembered forever.

The match with The Undertaker would be that moment. There are some issues with that though. Taker will be 50 by WrestleMania 31, and Sting is in his mid-50’s. Now that doesn’t mean it won’t be good, it just that it is two older guys going out there against each other. It could be a trainwreck as well. I don’t think it will be, but given their ages, you have to leave that possibility open. Another problem is that with this match being at WrestleMania, the outcome of Undertaker winning is obvious. Why would Sting sign just for one match and lose? Some people would question that. If it happened at an event such as SummerSlam, it unpredictability would be added to the scenario and would be a great addition, but if this match happens, it’s going to be at WrestleMania.

Will this ever happen, it remains to be seen. I’m not saying I wouldn’t want to see it, but like I said, with how often this rumor has made the rounds, I’ll believe it when I see it.
