Nick’s Quick Wits-The Truth Is Out, Will It Hurt?

Perhaps the hottest topic this past week in wrestling wasn’t anything that happened on Raw, it was the CM Punk podcast with Colt Cabana. 10 months after his highly publicized walkout, Punk brought his silence and spoke about what happened to him in the WWE and the events leading to his departure, as well as the aftermath.

CM Punk mentioned some things that were shocking, while others that weren’t surprising, and even assumed. First, he confirmed that he was set to face Triple H at WrestleMania XXX, and that WWE didn’t have plans to include Daniel Bryan in the main event. Punk felt that he shouldn’t be facing Triple H, and that it was an outrage that Bryan wasn’t going to main event giving how white hot he was at the time. Punk also had the goal of main eventing, as in being in the final match, at WrestleMania, and realized that changes to that ever happening were seemingly non-existent.

He also cited that he was screwed out of several things that were promised him, such as a movie role and sponsors on his gear. His movie role for 12 Rounds 2 was given to Randy Orton, and after he was denied sponsors on his gear, but when Brock Lesnar signed, he was allowed to have them. Another thing he stated was the all the other main event level talents that were featured at WrestleMania 29, The Rock, John Cena, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, and The Undertaker, all were paid more than him, even though his match with The Undertaker was considered by many the best match of the night. In my view, that’s not fair to Punk, if he’s competing that the same level, he should be compensated the same. It was speculated that Punk was being mistreated by WWE, and those seem to be examples proving just that.

Now, he also spoke up about a couple shocking things done by WWE that are just horrible. First, there was the failure to diagnose his staff infection. That happens, but he should have to go to his wife’s doctor, who gives him the proper diagnosis, and says “You should be dead” for him to get that taken care off. If Punk stayed and compete, and actually did end up dying because of that staff infection, then WWE would have serious problems to deal with. The other was that Punk stated that he received his official termination papers from WWE on his wedding day. Now Punk hadn’t been in WWE for months at that point, but to do that, especially on perhaps the biggest day of his personal life, is insulting. Punk did state that he’s the happiest he’s been in years and has no desire to return to WWE. If you lose your passion, then maybe you should leave. It’s not healthy to do something, especially something as physical as being a WWE superstar, if you have no interest and no enjoyment in doing it.

That is Punk’s side, he’s not somebody known for lying, so I believe him. It’s a shame that his run ended this way, I was always a fan. Will this have a negative impact on WWE? Punk made statements, especially about the misdiagnosis, that could be a black-eye for the WWE. If WWE is letting it’s superstars perform injured and turns a blind-eye to it, tragedy will eventually occur. Someone could he badly injured or even killed. Nobody wants that to happen and I hope it doesn’t. Obviously, Punk didn’t feel he was treated fairly, and there was a lack of communication that could have prevented some things from happening, something that Vince McMahon confirmed on his podcast with Stone Cold Steve Austin. I don’t think that Punk’s comments will hurt the WWE much, or even at all, but it does, and should, make people take another look at how the WWE is as a company. The way a company treats it’s employees says a great deal. Keep that in mind. I’ll end with Punk’s pipebomb promo, because I just feel like it, hey, it’s one of the greatest promos in history, so enjoy it once again.
