Nick’s Quick Wits-Where’s The Logic?

It’s come to my attention that logic rarely exists in the WWE today. I know it’s scripted entertainment, but at the same time, those scripts need to have logic in their stories.

Reigns-Bryan Fast Lane

I’ll start by going back to the summer, where Daniel Bryan was stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship because he was injured. He needed surgery and was going to be out for an extended period of time, therefore being unable to defend the championship. That was unfortunate, but the only logical way to handle that situation. Here’s where logic is thrown out the window, SummerSlam, where part-timer Brock Lesnar defeats John Cena to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Now, Lesnar works a limited schedule and went from September to January without a working a match, all while holding the title. So, Daniel Bryan was stripped of the title because he was unable to defend it? Then it’s won by Lesnar who didn’t defend it for four months? Not very logical and somewhat hypocritical. What happened to the 30 day clause? I guess we have different rules for different people, even in WWE.

Logic was also thrown out the window when making the main event for the next pay-per-view, FastLane. It’s the royal rumble winner Roman Reigns, defending his title shot against Daniel Bryan. As much as I would love to see Bryan win and get into the main event of WrestleMania again, logically, it doesn’t make any sense. The Authority claimed that Reign’s win was controversial because of The Rock’s interference. He’s where that claim is illogical. The Rock attacked Big Show and Kane, two superstars who had been eliminated from the match, saving Reigns from an attack by them. The Rock never laid his hands on any superstar still eligible to win the match, therefore his interference had no effect on the outcome of the match. Therefore, logically, Reigns is the winner by legitimate means and shouldn’t have to defend his title shot.

Now, I get that WWE is doing the Reigns/Bryan match to attempt to please the fans who were upset that Reigns won the rumble instead of Bryan. However, you can’t throw logic out the window just to appease the fans. It sucks for them, but they’re just going to have to deal with it.  If Bryan wins at FastLane and faces Lesnar one on one at WrestleMania, then the credibility of the royal rumble match will be severely harmed.  If a guy wins the match, then has to defend the prize and end of losing it, then what’s the point?  There isn’t one.  I’m expecting a non-finish at FastLane, people will be watching for free on the Network, so they can get away with it, because you can’t logically remove Reigns from the main event of WrestleMania, but at the same time, you’re going to want to have Bryan in the match because the fans want him there, and if he’s not, they could hijack the show.  That doesn’t do anyone involved any favors.

WWE backed themselves into a corner they may not be able to get out of.  They just couldn’t have Bryan win the rumble match and face Lesnar one on one, could they?  No, they were insistent on pushing Reigns into that spot.  I like Reigns, but he’s not ready, and the fans know it.  Logic has been thrown out the window to appease to both appease the fans, and do what WWE wants.  If you want to watch logical stories, watch another program, watch WWE, well, just watch it because you want to to, don’t try to understand it.

Until next time, think logically, don’t throw it away for no reason,

-Nick
