- WWE officials also had several scenarios planned out for Randy Orton to win in his hometown of St. Louis.

– Christian is reportedly ready to return to the ring but WWE officials decided to keep him off the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

– One of the ideas WWE officials were discussing for the Royal Rumble would have seen John Cena enter, win the match and earn a title shot at WrestleMania 28. The storyline would have then saw Cena be forced to choose between a WWE Title match and the match against The Rock.

Im so so so very tired of john cena. It would be a true disgrace
if they allow him to break ric flairs record.

well cena winning would have been out of the blue (until he entered of course) so wwe would have gotten credit for unpredicting. i knew Y2J would not win, he and punk dont need their match to be for a title (which it will be anways) and sheamus has been on a push of late.
Now wwe can do something intriguing with jericho-punk, as i would like to think wwe will let them both have a lot of say in creative, like y2j-hbk fued, more interested than ever now to see when jericho finally comes out for punk

I liked the announcers thing. It’s what makes the Royal Rumble what it is: things that we didn’t expect.

I think it would have been better had it been 40 again though. They had 9 surprise spots this year (Ricardo, Foley, Lawler, Booker, Cole, Duggan, Road Dogg, Khali and Kharma). That’s nearly a third of the Royal Rumble. They had to leave out people like Christian, Kane, John Cena, Mark Henry, Triple H, as well as lower card wrestlers like Brodus Clay, Drew McIntyre, Jimmy Uso, Tyson Kidd, William Regal, Heath Slater, Yoshi Tatsu, Trent Barretta, Tyler Rex, Curt Hawkins, Mason Ryan, JTG, Johnny Curtis, etc.

When you consider how many injuries/bans (keyfabe or otherwise) such as Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, The Undertaker, Sin Cara, Ted DiBiase, Evan Bourne and “Zack Ryder”, it makes you wonder what they’d have done had they all been available.

They should have kept it at 40.

I know, let’s make Cena even more Super Human…

Seriously they chose to have Micheal Cole in the rumble over Christian?

Would have been a ridiculous story if they had gone with that. You dont spend a year pushing a Rock/Cena match at WM, then turn around and say “well, it may not happen now because Cena won the Rumble.”
How many buyrates do you think they would risk losing purely from people that are only gonna watch WWE and WM because of The Rock vs Cena and will walk away because they dont read news sites?

So glad the executive team decided to ditch the idea of Cena winning the rumble. He’s already achieved a status in the WWE to a point that he doesn’t need to compete for the belt all the time(like it or not). I do think WWE made a smart decision of Kane laying out Cena and just ending it there. That move just solidified Kane as one of the top-heels in the business, and built a new foundation for Sheamus to grow into a full-time main-eventer.

well, obviously he would pick the rock,

since cena gave up his title shot before for Zack Ryder. so good thing it was nixed

Thank GOODNESS WWE had sense not to go with that storyline for Cena, how stupid would that have been…even more stupid than that double count out haha!!!
