NJPW Dominion results: Did Kenny Omega finally overcome his longtime rival?

Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada have had an intense rivalry since their first match back at Wrestle Kingdom 11. With the series at 2-1, Omega and Okada decided to make the next match a 2 out of 3 falls match with no time limit.

The first fall was given to Okada, who, after a series of counters, was able to trap the Cleaner’s legs for the first fall of the match, leaving an intense mountain for Omega to climb.

Omega, furious after losing the first fall so easily, delivered a double stomp through a table to Okada. Omega would land a V-Trigger on the champ as he got back into the ring, and went for the One-Winged Angel. However, Okada was able to escape, and the match continued.

Omega finally caught Okada with the One-Winged Angel to tie up the series 1-1.

In his attempt to get the final fall of the night, Omega broke out the Styles Clash, with the crowd bursting with “AJ Styles” chants. However, Okada broke out yet again. Eventually, Kenny Omega’s tag partner Kota Ibushi would run down to the ring to convince him to go for the Phoenix Splash.

Okada avoided the move, landing a Rainmaker. However, he was unable to capitalize, as both men were exhausted at this point. Okada mustered up enough energy to land two more Rainmakers. However, Omega dodged. The two men then countered each other’s signature moves, with Okada landing a dropkick during Omega’s attempt at the V-Trigger, and Omega turning another Rainmaker into the One-Winged Angel, though he was unable to make the pin.

Omega regained his composure as Okada sat against the ropes. He measured his opponent before landing a devastating V-Trigger, followed by the One-Winged Angel for the win, taking the match at 2-1. Over a year after his first match with Okada, Kenny Omega has finally captured the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Omega celebrated in the ring with his friends Kota Ibushi and the Young Bucks. He would later say in the post-match press conference that the group is called the “Golden Elite.”
