Original plans for Championship match at Royal Rumble

While this year’s Royal Rumble had many exciting moments, a lot of fans noted that the return of former US Champion Dolph Ziggler during the match felt out of place.

During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Dolph and revealed a possible reason why his Rumble entry felt so bizarre.

According to Meltzer, Ziggler was originally expected to return way earlier in the show as the opponent of Bobby Roode in his Glorious US Open Challenge but plans changed in last minute.

It’s not known if Ziggler would have still been part of the Rumble if the original plans would have been executed, but his spot in the match looked to be more like a last minute addition instead of something which was planned in advance.

No word yet on what the company has in mind for the former World Champion after last night’s show but he should appear on this week’s SmackDown Live.
