Paul Heyman recently spoke with Awful Announcing to promote WrestleMania 32 and his new deal with Yahoo Sports. Here are the highlights.
What does Dean Ambrose bring to Brock as an opponent that is unique for this WrestleMania match?
A level of excitement because he’s crazy enough to actually think he has a chance against The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar.
What is left for you to do in sports entertainment?
Everything! Everything.
But it seems like you’ve already done pretty much everything imaginable there is, right?
We’ve only just started. I would like to be the advocate for the main event the first time WrestleMania headlines in Cuba. I’d like to be the advocate for an event that’s held in a refurbished Roman Coliseum. I would like to be the advocate for the main event that is broadcasted around the world from Yankee Stadium. I would like to be the advocate, I will be an old man when this happens, when WrestleMania is held for the first year ever on the moon. We are truly in a global village now and I don’t think the world is enough for the appetite, certainly of Vince McMahon let alone for the rest of the sports entertainment community and I want to be there. We’ve always had the luxury in places that I’ve worked of being at the forefront of emerging technology and distribution. Who would have ever thought the power of social media? And then taking that social media and then putting it on a platform like Yahoo and how big that can become.
We’re in a whole new universe now so anything that I’ve accomplished in the past 30 years in this industry I would hope only pales by comparison to my next 5 years in this industry and I hope the next 5 years pale by comparison as well. It’s my job for Brock and my job for myself and my responsibility to my children to keep figuring out that next level and that next big thing so that we can not only be a part of it but that we can be on top of it as well.
