Home » WWE News » Punk Disses Rock on New DVD, Rock Comments on Backstage Heat

- WWE will release their “John Cena vs. The Rock: Once In a Lifetime” DVD and Blu-ray this week. Courtesy of WWEDVDNews.com, we have some quotes from WWE Champion CM Punk. They note that most Superstar comments were positive but WWE decided to leave in Punk’s negative comments towards The Rock.

Punk on the Rock/Cena rivalry: “I wish we could get more face to face stuff, you know, but I guess that’s kind of the dichotomy we’re stuck with. I also think that’s what makes it interesting.”

Punk on Rock coming back and main eventing: “It’s been a frustrating year. Not just for me but a lot of other Superstars. The Rock waltzes in and he wrestles two days a year. Rock says this place is family, well, I hang out with my family as often as I can.”

In the documentary portion of the DVD, The Rock addresses the backstage heat he had with members of the WWE roster:

“I strip away all the BS that can be fostered in the locker room with some of the guys. Strip away all that, because I don’t hear all that, it’s all noise, and it’s all bullshit to me.”

    @haz:

    Completely disagree. In fact, I’d argue that his promo & it’s followup would’ve been a lot better in the attitude era. He’d have had a lot more freedom & they wouldn’t have rushed it so fast back then due to all the star power they had.

  • Rucdogg

    @barry horowitz…really? Owen Hart could have replaced Rock to go toe to toe with Austin? You need a drug test. As much as Rock needed Austin during that era Austin needed Rock. When Austin went down it was Rock who led the way for over a year, and when Austin came back everyone wanted to see him vs Rock. Far as Punk goes, I never turned my tv when Rock was full time and would come out. Punk comes out, so does my remote. The guy is stale, he had one big moment last year and a month later Alberto Del Rio had the title. The biggest thing hes done this year is “turn” on Rock. Stop crying on dvds and the internet and try getting in a main event. Bet your ass when Rock, Austin, Taker, HHH, Cena, hell even Jericho were all champ they didnt go months without main eventing a ppv. Theres a reason for that, its called MONEY and punk doesnt draw it.

  • Cm Skunk

    They all resent the Rock because none of them will ever be as successful as him, Rock is probably the only guy who walked away from wrestling on his on terms and isn’t stuck in the WWE. Wrestling needs the Rock the Rock doesn’t need wrestling that’s why he can come and go as he pleases because none of the new guys are even close to his level.

  • haz

    Cm punk wouldnt even get on tv in 2000 ahha

  • barry horowitz

    @opinions…to your statement that the attitude era would have crumbled without the Rock,I think thats a real stupid statement they had ALOT of talented guys on the roster at the time and really the rock was only as good as his chemistry with austin…if austin hadnt been around yes the attitude era would have crumbled,but anybody they would have put against austin would have been huge you act like rock was the only one capable which is absolutely ridiculous,say rock didnt exist and they had fueded austin against owen hart and gave him a huge heel push of being aligned with mr.mcmahon,then owen would have been just as big as rock,the rock was great dont get me wrong but he probably wouldnt have been shit if it wasnt for austin and mcmahon being his catalyst.

  • JIR

    Punk is a heel because he will hold the tittle til he faces Rock @ the Rumble

    The Rock is doing business nothing else he may have a soft spot for the old days but he wants money sue him we all would do the same

    Undertaker is respected a hell of a lot more then either one and is awarded his WM spot because of his history in the biz

    Everything else is pointless

  • Undertaker

    @steve He doesnt need to main event, hes matches are always going to be better than everybodys, even if he fights hornswoggle!

  • Undertaker

    They Wouldn’t be complaining if they were in Rock shoes !

  • Steve

    @ Bill:

    Have you seen Undertaker’s matches the last couple years? He can’t main event Wrestlemania. He’s so broken down that it would be an embarrassment. Sure, he’s good enough to trot out for the dog and pony show and get a nice pop, but at this point he shouldn’t be near the end of the night. Even though we’re only a couple years removed from his HBK matches, he’s light years behind being able to work great matches like that at this stage.

    @TheSheepDog

    I’d have a problem with the Rock taking main event TV space/time away from others if the others were actually interesting. Look, the roster may be talented, but WWE in all its components is just mediocre at best at the moment. Even CM Punk’s character has gone stale since his huge turn last year. There’s nothing new or interesting, and when I see a guy, who i enjoy watching so much, return to my television set and bring his fantastic performance and electricity to the table in place of performances, I’ll take it. This is why people get TV time, because they prove their worth, and he’s done so over and over again. CM Punk and others can bitch all they want, but this guy paved the way and does it better than them. If CM Punk was better at what he does now, I’d naturally be inclined to complain, but, frankly, I couldn’t care less because the Rock is more entertaining. They should step up their game if they really want the limelight.

    By the way, the Rock came back in 2004 to put over Evolution at Wrestlemania in a mid-card match. Can’t blame him for that.

    Maybe current wwe superstars should stop their bitching and turn themselves into a draw. Yeah rocky comes back only a few times a year but every time he shows up he draws BIG. Maybe if today’s superstars spent less time on the Internet bitching about the shots they don’t get and spent more time working on their ability to get heat then maybe they’d be in the main event. McMahon hates having to have part timers in his main event. He’s been recorded saying that many times. But when it comes down to it it’s a business decision. And he needs to do what’s good for business. If rock draws better then punk or Ziggler then he’s guna be given the spot. Maybe if they worked more on their character more fans would wana see punk or zig zag in rockys place. Not dissing their wrest,ing both are phenomenal but when it comes down to it wrestling isnt a sport it’s entertainment and u have to go with guaranteed money.

  • TheSheepDog

    @Anon, i would not waste your time trying to reason with omg rocky is soo amazing trolls, they just dont/cant accept it is what it is. The fact that people can not see the wrong in someone strolling in taking limelight, well when these people have matured and they bust their asses in jobs and some dude just strolls in and takes promotions etc, then maybe they will understand. Until then, maybe the ignorance be with you.

    @nin:

    COMPLETELY different situations. Undertaker has never left the company and has been 100% devoted to the company for 21+ years.

  • opinions

    Getting kinda tired of cm punk and his “opinions”. Rock payed his dues. What would the Attitude Era have been w/o The Rock? Remember HBK was still injured(back). So the Attitude Era could have crumpled. Could have, which means no CM Punk. Im sure punk isnt goin to want to wrestle for ever. Kids, travel schedules, and other opportunities will change his mind. But punk, sthu. Rock earned to mk his schedule. You didnt. Youve only been hot for about 2 1/2 yrs. If that.

  • g@k.com

    undertaker sucs

  • TheSheepDog

    Also how dare Punk have an opinion which differs from what the majority think? especially the know it alls, who spend no time at all inside arena or in the industry, yet claim to be so knowing because it suits their own ideals and ignore clarity. But this is the internet, where common sense is in short supply.

  • TheSheepDog

    really amazes me this whole onesided bias towards rocky fans have, but kids/teens will be kids/teens, and thats what his fans were so naturally the bias would be what it is. As of course, every generation thinks theirs was/is the best and unable to conceive otherwise.

  • trishsasha

    The fact that WWE has to reach out to former superstars tells us how mediocre the product has really become. Don’t blame The Rock for coming in a bringing some excitement to an otherwise stale tv show.

  • sam

    i see where punk is coming from, but he has to remember The Rock is a draw, whilst CM Punk hasnt done that yet, thats why they turned him heel that and WWE wanted cena as the top babyface. until Punk draws like Rock can/did

  • Bill

    Undertaker’s been wrestling for over 20 years, & has sacrificed himself for the business. The only difference is that Rock wrestled for less than 10 years & comes back into the main event immediately. Undertaker didn’t main event WM for the past 2 years. People feel that Rock should’ve returned to do more full-time work & be on Raw more often, rather than tweet promos, whereas Taker is on Raw to solidly build up his match a few months in advance.

  • it’s in the game

    I’m not shock. if it was stone cold who did it i bet cm punk wouldn’t have said anything about or have backstage heat on him. what about lesner how come he don’t say anything about that? its simply it’s the WWE(White Wresting Entertainment) if your skin is is dark don’y expect for them to do anything for them all they do is push all these white wrestlers and let all of the old white wrestlers do what they want but if a non-black wrestler comes in they give them stupid gimmicks or stereotype gimmicks.

  • nin

    it’s funny how they are all mad because the rock comes and goes when he wants to but the undertaker comes for only one match a year and no one says anything about that.
