Renee Young on being silent during the return of Dean Ambrose; being loved by the WWE Universe

The addition of Renee Young to the Monday Night Raw announce team has been almost universally praised. Many considered Renee to be an upgrade from Jonathan Coachman and felt that she deserved the spot after her work in NXT and as a host/backstage interviewer on the main roster.

In a recent interview with Yahoo, Young spoke about the praise she’s received from the WWE Universe.

I’m not sure what I’ve done to deserve that. We live in such a finicky world where everyone just wants to hate everything. Everyone always has a comment on something. To be held in a nice light is mind-boggling. I owe everybody a round of drinks.

She also spoke about being on the commentary team the night Dean Ambrose, her husband, returned from injury, and why she was so quiet for the segment.

That was by design. I think it made more sense because I knew for Dean, he had been waiting for almost nine months, and it was a huge, huge moment for him. Anything that I would’ve said in that moment would not have added. It was great just to sit back and see him in that moment. My heart was full for him.

How do you think Renee has done on Raw? Let us know in the comments below.

I did find it interesting that one of the other commentators, Cole I think, said something along the lines of “Renee, you know how much it means to him coming back” and essentially put her in a position I did not think she should have been put in. Especially if the much rumoured Ambrose heel turn happens. How is a babyface commentator who has been acknowledged as being married to him, supposed to react to him doing heel stuff?

Are we going to get pretend divorce angle like they did with Trips and Steph years ago?

At least when The Uso’s and Naomi were on opposite sides of the heel/face fence, they were never really seen together other than in stuff like Total Diva’s. It is only when they are both babyfaces that they interact.

Did not like her work at HIAC. She added nothing to the broadcast

    Thank you for the correction.

    Boyfriend? They’re married.

She had to remain silent because Dean is her BOYFRIEND. No showing favoratism by the new female commentator… it saves face and humility. ‘Nuff said.

Very early days yet for Young. I have long been a supporter of hers to get the spot on commentary, so am happy she is finally there. Is she great at it? No, but some things just come with experience. She has done an admirable job yet but she really needs to find her feet. One of the toughest things on commentary is having someone talking in your ear all the time giving directions, and being able to relay that without being distracted or sounding robotic. She has done well for someone new to this, and will only get better.
