- A babyface Justin Gabriel vs. Tyson Kidd plus Alicia Fox vs. Natalya was taped tonight in Minneapolis, Minnesota for this Thursday’s episode of WWE Superstars.

- According to a new report, the plan for Money in the Bank as recent as a few days before the pay-per-view was to have Alberto Del Rio cash in his briefcase and leave the show as the new WWE Champion, regardless of what happened between John Cena and CM Punk.

There had been several ideas tossed around for the Punk-Cena storyline and WWE decided over the weekend to give Punk the WWE Title and go from there.

Punk has the title belt with him.
He tweeted a picture of him holding the title at Cubs game on Monday.

Punk recently got a new T-shirt thats selling, right? They wouldn’t do that if he was only going to be there for one more day. Expect Punk to do something to cause something like a double DQ so there is only “One real WWE Champion”.

I can see Rey winning and Del Rio will cash in after Rey’s victory. I think WWE changed the plans because everybody was expecting Del Rio to cash in at the end of the night.

@JD. But he cant win the tournament can he.
Cashing in the contract would be entirely separate.

Should have had the match start and CM Punk then run off Meaning a count out… Del Rio loses his briefcase and CM Punk is still the champion!

  • Hunter

Fan reaction would have worked either way- having them pelt the ring with cups etc at Vince and Cena could have created another potentially hot storyline.

  • Pissed Off Fan :(

Can you imagine the Chicago fans if cena would have won?! Smart move by vince to avoid that

  • JD

@Frank – Yes, because there’s no way that Alberto could just cash in his briefcase on the winner of the tournament…

  • Frank

In case u missed it del rio got knocked out of the tournament.

  • Maestro

Yeah, and that would have been another lame and predictable ending to a WWE PPV. Good call on Punk WWE, good call.

  • Kevin

THANK GOD!!!! Plan B was so much better… Thanks Vince!!

  • Effmenow

Would’ve been better if Del Rio came down and actually had the match with Punk and still lost. We all know He will win the tournament anyways.

  • JIR

I wonder if they let Punk have the tittle so when the day he wants to return he will have an immediate storyline
