Home » WWE News » Roman Reigns Speaks About Becoming A Top Guy and The Face Of WWE

- As we reported yesterday, Roman Reigns recently conducted an interview with The Washington Post, and below are the main highlights:

The Importance of WrestleMania:

“I’s Mania first. We want to get there the right way, and we want to just tear the house down. We wanna burn it down, put cracks in the wall, just demolish that place and have an awesome match.”

“As far as the next day? There’s going to be some gaps. There are going to be a bunch of big names that are gonna compete [at Wrestlemania] and then not be there on Monday. That’s when guys like myself, the rest of the Shield, Cesaro, the Usos .?.?. there’s a bunch of guys who want this and are willing to work every single day. If I’m a fan of the WWE, I would feel safe to know that your entertainment is in the right hands.”

Becoming a Top Star in WWE:

“I’ve always pictured myself being in the main event. It’s always been my expectation to be the top guy, the face of the company, the one with all of that responsibility. But that should be everybody’s goal. I didn’t get into this to just be in the middle of the pack. If you want to do that, go work in a different line of work. This isn’t the place to camouflage yourself. I’m trying to be the most exotic animal on this safari.”

Opinionated Crowd Reaction:

“I try to live in the moment. When you’re in a singles match, you’re in there, and the guy’s on top of you, and you’re in a hold and you’re being smothered: You’re in the fight at all times. But when we’re doing these team fights, you have a little time to take in the moment and just absorb the energy of the crowd. Especially with the crowds nowadays. They’re very opinionated; you can almost sense that the crowd has taken a leadership role within their own product. This is what they take joy in and take pride in. And if they’re not into something, they’re going to let you know. If they’re into something, same thing: They’re going to let you know.”

I agree with you 100%. But they are not breaking them up anytime soon I believe somewhere along the line of Reigns little push somebody had a change of heart and waited to give The Shield a face run before breaking them up. Hey I say why not give it a shot hey the may come off a huge face and maybe you keep them together as long as you can. There biggest face pop will come next Monday the night after WM when they triple powerbomb HHH in the middle of the ring I know it is coming.

Did he trail off in this interview? I snort with laughter. I do.

This man will be the face of the WWE as a top face, and heel; if he keeps himself in good order.

I hope all three talented members of “The Shield” have a great career, they all certainly have the potential:

Ambrose, as a Heel is obviously a mercenary and upper mid-carder. He will also be a main event but I fear any WWE Championship bestowed to him will be only to escalate a feud and not to really have him as a champion. As face, he would be an RVD’ish, laid back “cool dude” and I think it would work.

Rollins I believe is the next Jeff Hardy but better because he isn’t a meth addict or pillhead (that I have heard of) and works pretty safe (I haven’t heard of any injuries he caused). His exciting style will grant him at least a few lower card title runs, and a main WWE Championship run could be his, but, like Ambrose, would require a context-specific feud.

Reigns, will be the real star. He improves every week, doing different moves. He is really getting a lot better, on promo’s and in the ring. He is the obvious breakout, and I feel that he is best suited for top line feuds and main event status quo that will draw people.

All 3 are good at selling, good at working the ring. The one criticism I have is that all three seem to be too good for their own good, and there really aren’t enough big lights to shine for all three to rise at the same time without being in a stable.

Someone will take back seat for a while on the lower card (victorious in feuds, Rollins?)

Someone will take a front seat on the upper midcard (putting others over, Ambrose?)
Someone will take a spot in the main event (Reigns, rising to the top storyline?)

The Shield was a great investment and if broken up properly can lead to a great future for all three members, and create the entertaining scenario of one-night reunion matches.
