Ronda Rousey signs with WWE full-time

UFC’s former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, has officially signed with WWE. Rousey made a surprise appearance at this year’s Royal Rumble PPV, sporting Rowdy Roddy Piper inspired gear.

Rousey walked to the ring with fans screaming her name, and met the gaze of the three women in the ring; Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte, and the Royal Rumble Winner Asuka. Rousey pointed to the Wrestlemania sign, shook hands with Stephanie McMahon, and walked back up the ramp.

Rousey’s appearance left many confused wondering when we’ll get any answers. Well, it seems like we won’t have to wait long. ESPN revealed at 11:41 PM, minutes after the ending of the Royal Rumble, that Rousey has signed to be a full-time professional wrestler with WWE.

Rousey told ESPN that WWE now controls her time over the next couple of years, and that’s exactly how she wants it.

This is my life now. First prioritity on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, “There are other things I can do with my time that’ll make way more money, but I won’t enoy nearly as much.”

In the interview, Rousey also stated that she still has a great relationship with Dana White, considering him one of her best friends. She said she’ll bring Dana to a show eventually when the time is right. As far as her MMA career, she hasn’t claimed retirement.

That’s what people say (that I’m retired). I never retired from Judo.

EC3 is in essence a nobody who only has TNA to his resume (nobody will know who Derek Bateman was). Rousey is known by millions (maybe billions) due to her successful career in MMA, being featured in video games and a handful of film roles.
From a star value point of view, there was never any way they were putting her in development.
And EC3, he is starting from scratch as far as making a name for himself.

Rousey is a big name draw. Lashley isnt.
    Simple as that.

Well in all fairness EC3 is worthless!

I unlike some people going to wait and see what they do with Rousey before judging. For those who don’t understand the business it much smarter time have Rousey on the main roster then in NXT.

  • what?

Nothing like taking the spotlight off the women that bust their ass to put on a great show

That’s a good point, why on Earth would Lashley go to a development show. You can’t get more developed than Bobby Lashley. And yet Rhonda, who is admittedly awesome, but could not keep a straight face for the sake of kayfabe for more than 2 seconds once she was within the ring looking at her future opponents, gets to skip development……….. Wow

So EC3 goes to NXT and Rhonda goes to WrestleMania. Go figure.
