Royal Rumble Winner rumored to be from Smackdown Live

While Roman Reigns has been the go to pick to win the Royal Rumble over the past few months, Cageside Seats believes otherwise.

The wrestling site’s “Rumor Roundup” article for January 6th listed a handful of stories for the day. One, in particular, claimed that “A Smackdown star is expected to win the men’s Royal Rumble.”

With all the recent spoilers for upcoming Smackdown Live shows, it was assumed that a Raw superstar would walk away as the winner of the rumble. AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens are all part of a Fatal-5-Way match at WWE Fastlane, at least for now.

As always, the card is subject to change, but with that match scheduled, odds are that SD’s top five stars would be out of contention when it comes to the Royal Rumble. It’s also possible that John Cena wins it as part of the Smackdown Live roster. The free agent wrestled on behalf of the Blue Brand at Survivor Series, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
