Rusev explains ideology behind Rusev Day chants

Rusev Day

While he still portrays a heel on television the Rusev Day chants of the former United States Champion have got him more over with the crowd in only a few months than most babyfaces on the main roster.

During a recent interview with Wrestling Inc, Rusev talked about these chants among other things and explained the ideology behind them.

According to the former Champion, these chants are not just a catchphrase and instead, they are more related to a mentality of celebrating who you are:

“It’s more than just a catchphrase – it’s a mentality. It’s celebrating yourself; celebrating who you are. It’s more than just catchphrase. If you think about it, it’s Rusev Day. So it’s more than that. People understand that, and the passion behind it. That’s why people get behind it, and it’s just been amazing to see.”

Apart from this Rusev also talked about his appearance on Total Divas and claimed that he doesn’t know whose idea it was to put him and Aiden English together.

I was thinking more Nation of domination ron simmons more than anything as that seemed to be him at his peak,

Vader could have been a champion but HBK was acting like a pre madonna in the 90s so he got screwed by the kliq

What about Owen Hart? He was always going to be brets younger brother but even after Vince bullied him into staying he still. Ever got the push he deserved and look what happened

Curt Hennig was another guy who could have easily been champion but was for whatever reason always held down by hogan and flair

Personally i always wanted John Morrison to achieve more

As with any good story, there has to be ups, downs, drama, triumphs, frustration, etc.

They pushed Ziggler, but he was plagued with concussions and had to drop the title. They pushed Bryan too. Much like Ziggler, Bryan had a history of concussions (maybe not to the extent) and look what happened to him. Would you like to see Ziggler end up like Daniel Bryan?

Now let’s back up to the subject of Ziggler’s history of injuries. Who was the guy who delivered one of these said career-derailing injuries? Yup! The “All-American American American American American” Jack Swagger. He got pushed, but he was stiff an a liability to his opponents in the ring. Other names on the list of people Swagger has injured are Sin Cara and Wade Barrett. Oh, and not to mention, his DUI charge. So there’s that.

By saying that Damien Sandow deserved a push, I’m assuming you actually mean “Damien Mizdow,” because Damien Sandow actually did get a push. Sandow has shared the ring with several legends and Hall of Famers in his career, so to say that his lack of push came down to backstage politics is crazy. Sandow was doomed from the beginning. Much like Doink the Clown, who also was good in the ring and fun to watch, never got a serious main event title run, nobody could ever take Sandow serious enough to have him carry the strap.

Vader, much like Swagger, was stiff and no stranger to injuring his opponents, except Swagger never paralyzed a man. Maybe if they hadn’t derailed Ziggler’s push, that might have changed.

Can you name one GREAT Ken Shamrock match? Me either. What about one GREAT Ken Shamrock promo? Nope. Guy had zero charisma, was less-than-stellar (and I’m Being generous) in the ring, and was competing with guys like Stone Cold, Undertaker, Mankind, The Rock, etc.

Faarooq Assad the Gladiator. Wrong era. Wrong gimmick(s). “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry. The Rock. Owen Hart. ‘Nuff said.

    Anyone else?

I get what you mean buuuuuuuuut

There are also a ton of talent who got over with the fans but WWE just wont push in favour of “their guys” like Ziggler, Swagger, Sandow, Vader, Shamrock, Ron Simmons stc they all fell to politics

  • MrDr3w

Again, the mere fact that you are commenting (rather passionately, as a matter of fact) shows that you do care. Score another one for Vince and the writers. 🙂

  • Arnold Jackson

Except with Punk and Bryan right?

  • Arnold Jackson

India kind of likes him and that was a market they were trying to break into, explains his push. It was the same logic that made Del Rio champion every time they did a big tour through Mexico.

  • Arnold Jackson

Well you know that’s not totally true.

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

    Roman Reigns
    John Cena
Giant Gonzalez (remember him) and many other generic muscle bound meatheads over some truly gifted guys who never get their dues. Ok you could argue some of the talent like William Regal had their personal demons but who didnt? and yet guys like Brock lesnar (who im not taking talent away from) get free passes despite their violations

  • pitfallharry219

    Jinder Mahal

  • MrDr3w

How so? Name one guy that they have pushed who you just didn’t care about one way or another. I don’t think you can.

Massive reactions, whether they be positive or negative, show that someone is getting over. Whether you like someone or hate someone, you still care about them. That’s the point. The only way Vince and the writers fail is if people don’t care, and give no reaction whatsoever. The very fact that you took the time to comment proves that you care. So they’ve done their jobs.

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

Except Vince & his writers dont listen to the fans….

  • MrDr3w

Blame the fans, not the talent, who are just responding to what the writers want, who are writing to incite a strong reaction from the fans, which is what has happened. Everyone succeeds. The fans are the ones who determine the storylines, not Cena or anyone else. It’s all the fans.

  • Kristopher Robinson

    Another wasted talent.

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

Maybe, but even so he was a pretty solid heel when he first debuted and it was going well until cena kilked it

  • MrDr3w

They want it to be organic. There are no clear-cut heels or faces anymore. Elias started as a “heel” but then he beat up John Cena and became a cult favorite. But he’s still insulting local crowds and doing heel-ish things.

While its amazing just how over this guy is, it baffles me how WWE arent pulling the trigger on Rusev
