- While promoting WWE 2K14 in India this past week, Ryback was asked about fans chanting “Goldberg” during his matches. Ryback said:

“When I first started with WWE, I did not get that [Goldberg chants] right away. But then the WWE.com website actually posted an article – because people that run the website aren’t necessarily the ones at TV – and they wrote that I channeled Bill Goldberg before my matches, which is completely false. So whatever creative genius did that… a bunch of people read that article on the .COM, and the chants started a week after because of that brilliant article that was posted.”

“It’s something that never bothers me, but I’m a man of my own identity and eventually the people that keep chanting it, they’re going to make me a ton of money because I’m going to have to beat him eventually. We’ll get him back and I’ll beat him.”

Ur absolutely right . But there is no comparison between the 2 except baldness. I dnt get where people get off calling him Goldberg if people actually watched a Goldberg match they’d understand. To me ryback would kill Goldberg the way ryback has been modeled. That’s only just because they downplayed Goldberg when he came to wwe. And the guy that commented saying he speared punk through a table ooo so what he used a spear one time batista big show edge Christian Roman reigns all use em regularly so I guess they are Goldberg too huh. Don’t listen to that guy

    No comparison at all

You wrote a lot just now, but I’m drawn back to the first line “He doesn’t spear his opponents”
Night of champions… Ryback spears punk through a table. This is just the quick reference/example. If you need more I could list every single week when he pulls off the move.
Hell even his entrance to the ring is a copy to Goldbergs… honestly play a clip of Ryback coming to the ring but have Goldbergs music over it and imagine there is pyro going off beside him when he stands still with his head down. Sure he doesn’t punch the air like Goldberg used too but its close enough.
I’m not saying that Ryback is to blame at all… I know its the WWE pulling the strings just like every wrestlers gimmick, I’m calling out Ryback because he thinks it was a WWE.com article that started it all…
And before you just call me a mark for Goldberg, I couldn’t give a flying f about him or his time. He was no one special in my mind, just an WcW answer for Austin.

What moves does he do exactly that are Goldberg’s? He doesn’t spear his opponents, he doesn’t finish them with a jackhammer, he doesn’t throw a crappy side kick that ends the careers of legendary wrestlers or lock in that rolling side leg bar. A British Bulldog like power slam is the closest thing he does to a Goldberg move, his finish looks nothing like anything Goldberg ever did, he uses a close line as his set up, completely different from bergs spear. And the fact is wrestling has been doing the big muscular guy goes undefeated and squashes jobbers routine for decades, Goldberg’s just happened to be the most successful. Were they trying to capture that magic again with a different guy, yea im sure they were, but ryback other then being bald and being a big strong guy who went undefeated has very few similarities to Goldberg. One being he actually loves the wrestling business and didn’t get in it because he was offered a giant contract that he couldn’t pass up. Ryback was down wrestling in ovw as far back as 06 as the silverback ryan reeves and before that idk if he was wrestling or not but he nvr gave up or quit on wrestling even though he got let go from ovw and even though wwe nvr saw anything in him. Then he came back to ovw and came up with the ryback gimmick and it was a futuristic terminator type deal, which granted wasn’t that good, but had nothing to do with Goldberg in anyway. So to blame the man himself for the similarities is foolish because they obviously weren’t his idea and im sure he would have rather carved out a legacy all his own instead of being put in the shadows of a guy who without a doubt will always be a bigger draw and a bigger name then he is, but is a very different and no where near as talented wrestler as he is. And if you think him calling out Goldberg isn’t the wwe trying to entice him out of retirement to face ryback at WrestleMania then again your very foolish, because the wwe would nvr even let him acknowledge the Goldberg chants unless they were trying to set up a match between the two, which again isn’t rybacks idea its the wwes, im sure he’s all for it and loves it, but it wasn’t his call to make.

Idk why there’s all this hate on ryback as if he is responsible for the way his gimmick is presented, the ryback character is very different then it was when he debuted it back in ovw around 07 or 08 when ovw was no longer even associated with WWE. WWE are the ones who decided to make him the silent monster who goes on an undefeated streak and destroys jobbers and undercard talent. Its not like he had the pull at anytime to go hey vince what if I do this character that’s a complete rip off of the Goldberg gimmick and you let me squash everyone and give me this monster push.

  • JAckh45

Yeah Ryback… we only call you Goldberg because of a .com article… clearly not because you look and act like him, clearly not because you use the same moves as him, clearly not because you were even quoted as yelling “whos next?” after some of your finishing moves… I could go on – the list is long.

maybe this is a goldberg tease..

  • Solid

I thought the other day when they get sick of the Ryback character, they can bring in Goldberg to destroy him at WM or something.

  • J-SMOOTH

I used to think they were calling him Goldberg but now it’s kinda like they are calling for Goldberg

  • Omar

Like anyone reads what wwe.com writes.
