As noted, WWE released Santino Marella on Friday. Marella took to Twitter to comment on his release:

Marella signed with WWE in 2005 and was called up to the main roster in 2007. Marella announced his retirement from wrestling on July 6, 2014, at a house show after suffering a third neck injury. Later that year, he underwent neck surgery.
During his stint with the company, he was a two-time Intercontinental Champion, one-time Tag Team Champion, and one-time United States Champion.
