Shinsuke Nakamura remembers his botch with John Cena last year, getting yelled at backstage

Shinsuke Nakamura and John Cena faced off against each other last year in an effort to determine the #1 contender for the WWE Championship. Jinder Mahal awaited the winner at SummerSlam.

During their match on Smackdown Live, a tough spot was witnessed by the WWE Universe when Shinsuke Nakamura’s inverted exploder suplex ended with John Cena being dumped on his neck.

In a recent interview with Gorilla Position, Nakamura went back to that moment, and the reaction he received backstage and said that he wanted another shot with Cena now that he’s a heel.

Some people were upset backstage. Not John Cena, but someone. They were so pissed off at me. ‘Why did you do that!?’ But everybody came to support me, even John Cena. ‘It’s not his fault, it’s my fault.’ What a good man.

Not everybody has a chance to wrestle John Cena now, so I felt good in the ring with him. I never was the villain in the ring, so if I had the chance I want to wrestle against him again, maybe we can create something better than before, yeah?

While he never captured the WWE Title from Jinder Mahal or AJ Styles later on at WrestleMania, Nakamura was definitely revitalized on the main roster with his heel turn and is now in the middle of a United States Title run. So it looks like whoever it was that yelled at him backstage wasn’t too upset.
