Spoilers: Huge gimmick match & NXT Championship matches announced for NXT TakeOver

NXT GM William Regal announced during tapings tonight that War Games will be making it’s return after twenty years at NXT TakeOver in Houston next month. The segment should air on the November 1st episode of NXT on WWE Network.

Regal announced that the two-ring War Games match will be between SAnitY¬† vs. The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong vs. The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish).

The NXT Championship will also be on the line at NXT TakeOver: Houston. It appears that Drew McIntyre will defend his title against Andrade “Cien” Almas in the co-main event.

The vacant NXT Women’s Championship will also be up for grabs in a Fatal 4-Way between Kairi Sane, Peyton Royce, Nikki Cross and Ember Moon.

NXT TakeOver: War Games will take place in Houston at the Toyota Center on November 18th during Survivor Series weekend.

War Games was a match created by Dusty Rhodes and the first match took place during NWA’s “Great American Bash” tour in 1987. War Games became one of WCW’s signature matches and was the feature attraction of WCW’s annual Fall Brawl PPV from 1993-1998.

ROH Champion Cody Rhodes connected about the match returning and noted that he was informed about the news before it was announced:

Ok you all just said two different ideas. One idea “could work” if they put in the proper effort and one that would be a complete failure, costing the company millions of dollars and possibly open the door for ROH to put out a show that by the end of 2018 is more popular than SD IF the rumors about what ROH has in store for 2018 come to pass. So are you saying you want NXT and SD to merge or is it you now just want to run SD with lower budget costs and small arenas?

Just like the WWE making more affordable to watch WWE PPV they want to do the same with wrestling fans coming to watch there show.

Really you see the photos of Smackdown low Attend that maybe by design. Getting fans closer to the ring with low cost. I think WWE want to go in the NXT direction.

  • Arnold Jackson

Lol no, that’s not going to happen. You need a Network exclusive brand just to keep up the buy in numbers on the Network. NXT will always be the Minor leagues of WWE but the favorite brand of the diehards.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I think they are going to put Smackdown and NXT together soon.

  • Arnold Jackson

Wow! Trying it out in NXT first. Good move.
